The 2020-21 College Football Thread: Alabama Unleashes Bold Familiar Flavor on CFB !!

The #4 team in the country has wins against Nebraska, Penn State, Rutgers, and Indiana and has allowed an average of 29 points per game in its last three games.

tOSU is tied for 2nd w/ ND in the old computer rankings the BCS used, 2nd in ESPN FPI, and 2nd in Sagarin.

The 5th place team got trounced 52-24 in a game that could have been much uglier, and the 6th place team lost to them. Honestly, if Cincinnati runs the table (assuming Florida loses to Bama), they'll have the biggest gripe.

Small sample size. And that BIG WIN against fucking Indiana is going to look crappy in the computers when the Hoosiers lose out after losing their best player.

IU's back up QB Jack Tuttle was once a highly recruited kid who had offers from Bama and USC. And yes, I'm trying to talk myself into some optimism.

Actually, UGA at 8 is the biggest joke in the entire rankings. Two 17 point 2nd half massacres and squeaking by MSU and UK teams devastated with COVID/injuries, to the point where MSU had less than 50 available players out of 100+. BYU fans should revolt.

You should be over on the BYU board telling them how mad they should be . . . about Iowa State.

Hotel rooms in Charlotte are selling out for the September 4, 2021 Dukes Mayo Classic between Georgia and Clemson.

Apparently many expect full capacity for games in fall 2021. That is contingent upon Covid vaccination of a big chunk of the population.

It would be interesting if attendance at the games required a vaccination Certificate.

Anybody who wants a covid vaccination will be able to get one by early summer 2021.

With the potential level of resistance to the vaccine pretty high according to polls, game attendance would be a pretty good "carrot" to encourage vaccination. I suspect people who might not want the vaccine may change their minds if vaccination is part of the ticket to get into the stadium where their favorite team is playing.

ESPN has a really good oral history on the end of the SWC today: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...ll-demise-southwest-conference-25-years-later

I spent a decent chunk of my childhood at Kyle Field, G. Rollie White, Moody Coliseum, Ownby, Daniel Meyer Coliseum, Amon G. Carter, and Reunion Arena and I still miss the SWC.

In a lot of ways, you could also write an article about the end of the ACC. A conference where Wake does not play UNC/Duke, which are less than two hours down the road, every year in football and twice per year in basketball, while flying to Syracuse and Boston College for a cross country match, ain't the ACC that folks used to be knowledgeable of and passionate about.

Doubtful.

If the big boys pull away from the NCAA it would make sense to return to eight conferences with eight or nine teams based on regional proximity and long standing rivalries. Play everyone in your conference in football and everyone home/away in basketball. Eight conference champions play for the national championship. Return to sanity.

Kudos to Coastal for taking this game, instead of either not playing or getting a cupcake to preserve their undefeated season.

Interesting groupings. It would be interesting to see if the academic ties between the B1G schools (Association of American Universities) would drive them to stay together.

Why would you add BYU, Boise State, and Cincinnati but leave out the academies ?

Good catch. Added them here.
