The OFFICIAL 2014-15 MLB Offseason/HOT STOVE Thread

Seems like Beane should wait to figure out what happens with Lester but there appear to be a lot of starters available via FA and trade.

White Sox trade for Shark, sign Robertson. Sale, Samardzija, Quintana, Rodon is a good looking rotation. What does Chicago have left to do? Maybe 3B/LF/SP?

Definitely 3B , and right handed #4 starter.. Viceido isn't the best LF but the white sox could do worse and he fits the need for a right handed power bat. It would be nice for a defensive upgrade as he is pretty horrendous in the field.

come now. nobody pays taxes in florida except tourists.

Orioles & Phils talking about a trade for Marlon Byrd. Assuming Amaro is asking for Machado or Bundy.

Lester

Apparently it's down to the Cubs and Boston. As a Cubs fan, I hope he chooses Boston and we end up signing James Shields on a little more clubhouse friendly deal, then go HARD after Price next season

seems like the red sox didn't really want him.

Lulz, they wanted him, but they also wanted him to take a hometown discount. John Henry personally flew down to talk with him and his family about how much they wanted him.

They offered the guy 70MM last year or whatever and then traded him mid-season. Lester saw through the bullshit.

Astros signed Gregerson to a 3-year deal this morning and within 30 minutes Dave Cameron speculates that they did it so they could trade him later. SMH.

LeBron James, who is worth about 25 - 30 extra wins a year in an 82 game season, gets paid $21M year.
John Lester who is worth about 4 extra wins a year in a 162 game season, gets paid $26M year.

The NBA needs the MLB's union. (So does the NFL and the NHL, for that matter. I guess that's why the NHL players hired Don Fehr.)

The NBA does have a new union leader and a new CBA showdown is coming.

LeBron is vastly underpaid, due to the cap (not considering endorsements), but there are a LOT of overpaid NBA players:

- Brook Lopez 3 years 47.2 million
- Carl Landry 4 years 50 million
- Carlos Boozer 2 years 32 million
- Amare Stoudamire 2 years $45 million
- Jeremy Lin 3 years $25 million

This is a silly post. But it does show how arbitrary and parlor gameish the stat is.
