Too Many Bowl slots; Not enough ACC teams

A large part of the nation just sits on their arse looking for something to do over the last two weeks of December. Bowl games help fill a sports viewer-ship and gambling craving during this time. ESPN doesn't care if Ford Field is vacant for the Quick Lane Bowl. It's live programming which enough people will at least check out for long enough for ESPN to sell ads to Progressive and Roman.

Don't forget mayhem. Gotta get more if those mayhem.vignettes more air time.

Not to mention, in some instances, minimizing the need to actually converse with the extended family and in-laws.

Notre Dame

With four weeks remaining, only Clemson, Wake, UVA and Pittsburg have cliched a berth. The league gets 11 berths and a possible 12th berth with the Citrus Bowl. If Clemson wins out, another team is eliminated. Right now, that would mean there are seven ACC teams for twelve possible spots. However, Notre Dame will drop into the ACC bowl lineup if it does not go to the CFP bowl games. Time to expand the ACC.

Time for Notre Dame to leave the ACC......

Bowl games are fun for the players and for the fans. They are great TV during the holiday season.

Unlike regular season games, bowl games are mostly played when players are on break between semesters. The trip can be more leisurely and, depending on finances, longer. Many bowls have organized trips to local attractions as part of the experience for the teams.

No homework or missed classes for players and coaches to worry about. Probably more important for Wake and similar schools. Players get some nice swag at most bowls.

And extra practices. Very important for programs like Wake that develop and build players. Really helps the young guys who aren't playing, get many more reps.

Anyone that thinks bowl games (big or small) are not enormously important to a program, needs to give up college football immediately.
