As a former Republican, I used to think the exact same thing. I agree there is tribalism on both sides but it is much worse on the Republican side...especially today.

Maybe so, but this would definitely be the most impeachable offense Trump has committed and probably the best angle they will have before 2020. All calls for impeachment up until this point were stretches, and clearly partisan. This one could have some legs especially if the GOP starts thinking that Trump is tanking the party, and the mid terms are going to reveal just that.

At this point I think it would be best for America, democracy, and both parties to just move forward with the impeachment process if they can prove campaign finance violations. Trump is going to go down swinging, and it is going to be Amazing to watch.

I don't think is it as simple as she wants money and publicity, although that is a large part of it for sure. This is no wilting flower, she is a tough woman to work in the industry in which she works. I believe part of this is that she isn't going to let dicks like Cohen and Trump get away with trying to intimidate her.

Yeah, an anchorman from the Christian Broadcasting Network was on the roundtable for ABC's This Week today, and when he was asked how evangelicals could just ignore Trump's debauchery, he said they forgave Trump because "unlike Monica Lewinski" Trump's "transgressions" were all in the past, didn't happen in the WH, and basically gave the we're all sinners who need to ask God's forgiveness line. Matthew Dowd looked like he was going to puke listening to him. Dowd turned and told the guy that Trump cheated on his first wife with his second wife, cheated on his second wife with his third wife, cheated on her with a playboy bunny and porn star, and that as a Christian you just don't excuse that kind of behavior because you're getting some judges and Supreme Court justices out of it. That was fun to watch.

I think a small part of it is politically motivated operatives got wind of the story from the NYT and pressured her to do so, and a big part of it is that she wants money and publicity as she is on the back side of a career.

It also might mean she can credibly fuck trump over hard (again?), and that might not be a bad thing at all. I am starting to think this has a chance.

It's not one-sided, but I don't think there's any doubt at this point that the GOP is much worse. Democrats are significantly closer to independent voters in polls in their perception of Trump than are Republicans. It isn't Democrats who chose Trump to be their nominee, and it's not Democrats who keep coming up with every imaginable excuse to justify Trump's behavior and actions. The tribalism simply isn't equal - Democrats, among other things, are statistically more willing to vote Republican than vice versa. Also, more to the point, I don't recall the great majority of Democrats preaching abstinence and abstaining from premarital sex when when they're screwing around themselves, or placing themselves on moral pedestals and passing laws restricting the rights of gays, women, and transgender people. Democrats are hardly perfect, but I don't think the tribalism is equal, nor the hypocrisy. The modern GOP reminds me of William Alexander Percy's famous observation that we are being led by "the kind of people who attend revival meetings, and then fight and fornicate in the bushes afterwards."

Feel free to provide examples of your false equivalencies. Democrats are a collection of hundreds of tribes. People use Bill Clinton as an example of Dem tribalism. Dude only got 43% of the vote in 1992. Hillary lost because many younger Dems don't even like the Clintons.

By the way, there's no way Trump will be impeached on campaign finance violations. No way. That would be even more hypocritical than Newt busting Bill for a BJ. They don't want anybody opening up the books on them which is what would happen if they put up Trump for impeachment. Mainstream media and conservative media would be all over it.

I forgot about the campaign finance violation aspect, and yes, it's a more obvious violation than Edwards' was. Still don't think a Pub congress will impeach him even if Mueller has provable cases for campaign finance violations, money laundering and colluding with a foreign enemy. There are no more Barry Goldwaters, but there is Fox news.
