TX Gov Perry thinknig about running for POTUS

I heard this morning that TX made up for 48% of all new jobs and added more than all states combined and due to tort reform added 20K more doctors. I got to think he at least has the record on jobs which will be important in the 2012 election with the terrible numbers.

20,000 doctors? Seriously.

He was also for making women look at a sonogram before having an abortion. He was for Texas seceeding if they didn't get their way. He's for an AZ like immigration bill.

Texas also has the next to the worst edcuational system in the cuntry. They have the highest rate of poverty.

If he's on the top of the ticket, Obama may get 75% of the Hispanic vote.

What is wrong with making a woman look at a sonogram before getting an abortion?

You want the state telling you what to do on medical procedures?

It should be an option that the patient has to ask for not offered or compelled by the state.

So it's a bad thing that I'm working 70 hours this week and not getting reimbursed for about half my work?
Eta I don't vote for many pubs. Certainly not perry.

Not questioning your dedication, I just found the 20K figure shocking.

According to who? If you break it down by sheer numbers, California and Texas are #1 and #2. Why do you think that is?

If you break it down by percentage, Mississippi has been #1 for a long time.

As you know, immigration affects that number greatly.

Fair enough. Being a little sensitive.

When I get some time I'll try to see if Texas has too many doctors overall. I do know the rural areas, particularly the valley, are under served like anywhere else.

My group is actually hiring right now, but I do know some particular specialists have a lot of competition.

Last information I saw (long time ago) indicated that Texas has pretty average school system but spends 30ish% less than the per student average.

As a conservative, I like how the Texas government is run (best economic policy in the country imho), but, as others noted, I feel like the governor is more of a figurehead than in most states, and I don't think a TX governor is electable.

Also, as a note, in my experience voting Hispanics care far more about the economy than about immigration.

Observing the growth of the UAE, I can agree that sell oil is a good economic policy.

California probably has more natural resources than any other state, but look at their economy.

World's Largest RefineriesName of Refinery Location Barrels per Day
Reliance Refinery (Reliance Petroleum) Jamnagar, Gujarat, India 1,240,000

Paraguana Refining Complex (CRP) Amuay and Cardón, Venezuela 940,000

SK Energy Ulsan Refinery (SK Energy) South Korea 840,000

Yeosu Refinery (GS Caltex) South Korea 700,000

Jurong Island Refinery (ExxonMobil) Singapore 605,000

Baytown Refinery (ExxonMobil) Baytown, TX, USA 572,500

Ras Tanura Refinery (Saudi Aramco) Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia 550,000[

S-Oil Ulsan Refinery (S-Oil) South Korea 520,000

I've learned something new again today TBR (thx), I would have never guessed SK had 3 of the 8 largest refineries in the world.

Ignoring the specific proceedure: Isn't that a huge part of any managed care program.. "Education" so that people are subtly steered to more "desired" proceedures... Ultimately you can elect to do "x", but you pay and not the plan....

California probably has more natural resources than any other state, but look at their economy.

I can't wait to see why yo uthink it's so.

You do understand that about 70-80% of the budget is spoken for by law not by the legislature don't you?

do you understand that commercial property in CA is most grossly undertaxed in the entire nation due to the onerus Prop 13? If you buy an office building that cost $30M to build in the 80s for $500M, you only pay taxes on the original $30M value if you buy the corporation that owns the building.

If our economy stood on its own, we'd be the fifth or sixth largest in the world.

If we were a nation unto ourselves and didn't send tens of billions of dollars per year to prop southern states, we'd be operating a huge surplus every year. Oh yeah and your taxes woudl go up dramatically.

But don't let facts get in the way of a "conservative" view.

Texas learned from the oil bust in the 80s that it isn't good to have all your eggs in one basket. It then started to attract a lot of different industries to the state to have a more diverse economy-- one that could ride the storm out during bad economic times. It is not simply an oil-driven economy anymore.
