Will Zalatoris, incoming freshman who just won the Jr. Amateur, shot 69. Pretty dang strong start on a hard course. Davis Womble shot 76. Not sure if we have anyone else competing.

Jr Andrew Winters of TX shot 73.

Really excited to see what this team can do this year. Zalatoris, Waugh and Guise will be a really good core. Hopefully the freshman from Ireland Paul McBride adjusts well, as I've heard that Asst Coach Walters said he was the best jr he's ever recruited. Plenty of depth now. Need to be patient this fall with a lot of young guys but no more excuses. Time to perform.

Don't forget about Cameron Young with a very strong first round of 68.

Forgot about Cameron. He is only a rising senior in high school. This incoming class with Zalatoris/McBride/Owen and then the 2015 class with Young and Kyle Sterbinsky are 5* classes.

Zalatoris finished t3 in the stroke play portion, Cameron Young finished t14. Young goes off at 10:30 in his match and Zalatoris is at 11:50.

For all the hype around Scottie Scheffler as the stud player coming out of Dallas, Zalatoris may actually be better. Scheffler is an incoming freshman at Texas.

Best of luck to Young and Zalatoris in the next round
Would be great if they can win a few more.

Looking for big things from our golf team in the next few years.

Having two future deacons make it to the round of 32 is pretty impressive.

Sounds like we are on our way back up again in golf. Honestly, never a reason we should suck at golf.

Looking good so far today in the round of 32

Zalatoris is up 3 after 10
Young is all square after 14

Will be great is both make it through again today.

Zalatoris 3 up thru 12
Young 1 up thru 17 (he won 16 & 17).

Young wins the final 3 holes to win 2 Up. On to the final 16 this afternoon for him.

Young birdies two of last three holes. Strong! Hoping to watch them both this afternoon.

Young may very well be the best rising senior in the country. And, Zalatoris is probably having the best summer of any incoming freshman.

Very exciting news for Wake golf.

You never know how someone is going to play in a given round but given who their opponents are it seems like both have a decent chance of making it to the quarterfinals.
