Headed to Las Vegas this Saturday thru Thursday, first time out there. We are staying at Excalibar (I know not the best place, but got it dirt cheap) wanted some advice on some cool things to do. I have hit all the websites and saw the tourist traps, but wanted some advice from the forum. Thanks!

Eat at Olives at the Bellagio on the patio by the fountains. Get the beef carpaccio.

hookers and blow?

Remember to get your food recs from Palma

that's a loooooooong time for vegas. I would probably die. try to schedule a full day in the recovery ward of local hospital mid-visit. You will be ready to go home for sure by the end of that trip.

No kidding. Any side trips planned?

I was in Vegas Thursday through Sunday two weeks ago. I barely made it out alive. That flight back to the east coast is the bottom pit of hell.

i have to go for 5 days at the end of september. first time. really excited.

I got upgraded by Airtran to bidness class on the flight home, that's what saved me (and those 3 bloody marys).

If you're gonna be there for that long, plan on either golfing or doing a side trip. There's no way you can spend that long in the casinos and clubs, you'll A. run out of steam and most importantly B. run out of money.

The view of the strip from the top of the Rio is pretty sweet at night, good club up there too.

We do have several side trips planned. Hiking Red Rocks one day. Grand Canyon tour one day. I would like to get some golf in, didn't occur to me to take the sticks.

Not actually in the city limits, but there's all night Russian roulette/free appetizers in the cloak room of the Hob Skob Café. I can't tell you the exact location because that breaks the code, but if you just start getting into every cab you see and saying "take me to Hob Skob" real confidently, one of them will eventually know what you mean (only took me like 17 cabs the first time). If you're going Sat-Thurs, I would say plan to get to Hob Skob by 4AM every night but Sunday. And on Sunday, get there by 3:15.

Absolutely eat at Stripsteak at one point, Michael Mina's steakhouse at Mandalay Bay. Best steakhouse on the planet as far as I'm aware. They serve as an app 3 different kinds of truffle fries, and you'll never believe that french fries can taste that good.

Depends on your budget really. Joel Robuchon might well be the best restaurant in the US, its at the MGM. Guy Savoy is up there as well at Ceasars. Some less expensive but memorable places would be a place called Twist, which will have some food you won't find anywhere else.

If you like clubs, check out the new one at MGM (Hakkasan sp?) just opened and is like 5 stories and 80,000 sqft of awesomeness.

For pool action, do Wet Republic at MGM as well. My personal favorite thing to do is check out the dueling piano bar at the center of NYNY, easily my favorite bar. Golf, I don't know if there are amazing mid-tier options, you'd probably end up at Angel Park. Can splurge and go for Shadow Creek, that's the best course out there.

If you like tequila, have some Paradiso at Bally's tequila bar. They have a classic Old Vegas steakhouse at Bally's.

Old Vegas Italian - Batista's Hole in the Wall- this dark, overstuffed booths with pictures of everyoen who has eaten there
High end Italian - Piero's -this is where locals go for high end Italian. You need a reservation.
High end sushi - Nobu
Mandalay Bay most places food overpriced, underwhelming
High end gourmet - Michael's at South Point Hotel
REALLY good, authentic Chinese food - Joyful House - it's not on The Strip. You should ask how to get there and go here.

You will not want to spend one waking minute in the Excalibur, so bring some $ for cabs. That place is a shithole. We went in there a couple years ago and my cousin famously quipped - "can't you just smell the blue collar?"

Hit the clubs at Wynn/Encore - XS and/or Surrender. Good times.

Figure out a way to get into Rehab at Hard Rock.

Don't blow your entire load first night.

Something else you can do is pay $5 and get a 24 hour bus pass.

There is a free monorail from Excalibur to Mandalay Bay.

Go to the first roulette table you see and put a grand on black and then hit it. That's what I did, it makes the rest of the trip a little more bearable.
