Wake Baseball 2020

Tweet doesn't really match the article... it's a rating of facilities only, not overall ability to develop players.

Get rid of that one kidney'd FRAUD and bring Scott Daeley home! Bring him home! Bring him home!

mlb.com rates Jared Schuster as the #78 prospect (a third round pick) in the 2020 MLB draft.

Schuster had ridiculous strikeout totals in his 4 WF starts: 26 IP 43Ks (with only 4 BBs). Lefties that can throw hard, always are held in high regard.

Well clearly high end facilities mean jack shit for player development. If they did matter then maybe we wouldn't consistently finish at the bottom in every pitching category. Those facilities haven't helped us learn how to throw a damn strike or to not throw 4 wild pitches a game.

Pitching doesn't develop in a New York minute.

43Ks in 26 IP is always a strong number. Add in being a southpaw and that just adds value.

ESPN reporting that the draft this year will only be five rounds. Could be good for Wake since we had some guys that were in the 6-10th round range.

Go Deacs!

College baseball is in a weird place because:

- All current players have an extra year of eligibility because of the canceled Spring season;
- The incoming freshman class for top programs will be the biggest ever because MLB shortened the draft to 5 rounds, there is no minor league baseball (so, players have no place to play if they do sign) and signing bonuses are limited; so far fewer HS prospects will sign with MLB teams this year;
- For the same reasons stated above, far more draft eligible juniors will stay in school than ever before;
- Some D-1 programs are terminating their programs; while other programs (Ivy and Patriot Leagues) do not recognize a 5th year of eligibility under any circumstances, which will further flood the college market with baseball talent.
- While most schools will continue their baseball programs, program funding may be cut which will limit scholarship money and roster size.

As a result of these factors, a lot of graduating seniors will not come back because there is no room to keep them in the program, and if there is room to keep them, the returning player will have to pay the full cost of tuition, which is not an option for a lot of families. So, while it sounds great that seniors (or even graduate students) still have eligibility left, the reality is that there isn't space on the roster to accommodate them.

mueller graduated last year anyway, i believe he was at wake for an extra years for his masters.

Furman dropped their program. Very sad. Same with their men's lax.

Furman press release

As is the case for universities across the country, Furman has experienced dramatic reductions in revenue. After shifting to remote instruction in March, the university refunded millions in room and board and other fees while incurring new costs related to the pandemic, such as increased technology support. The cancellation of camps and conferences, performances, and other events through the summer resulted in additional losses. At the same time, the value of the university's endowment dropped by more than $100 million as the global economy and markets experienced downturns.

Like most universities, Furman is expecting a decrease in enrollment this fall as many students decide to postpone college or enroll at schools closer to their homes. The combined losses in tuition and other revenues, along with the added costs of the pandemic, are expected to result in a multimillion-dollar deficit for Furman in the coming fiscal year.

I wonder if we'll get in on any of the players from programs that are getting the ax.

Yikes - Mike Buddie had to drop baseball? That had to be a tough pill to swallow.

It was a boon to us when Providence folder their program. Maybe we can have good fortune again.

A few guys from Providence helped Wake win the ACC back a few years. IIRC, Wake got some of the best players from the Providence team that was decent the year before they folded.
