Wake Baseball 2021 | Cusick (1st) + Fleming, Seymour, Menendez, Muntz Drafted

relative to whom?

Duke just won the ACC with zero junior college transfers

Vanderbilt has two national championships since 2014 and had zero junior college transfers on those rosters

Thank you. Such a tired old excuse that often seems to come from those who were most likely to be Wellman apologists (which is where it likely came from anyway).

Liberty is up 11-1 on Duke. Yikes. Pretty shocking as duke was one of the hottest if not the hottest team in the country.

Liberty pitcher Trevor Delaite, grad transfer from Maine, is one of six finalists for national Pitcher of the Year (which he won't win...but impressive), a 3rd-team All-American; came into today at 11-1 with an ERA under 2.00; 83 K's, 19 BB in 100 IP

Despise the school, but to their credit, Liberty has built a solid athletic department.

Their football team ended last season ranked 17th. Their basketball team has made consecutive NCAA tournaments (and the 2019 team upset Miss. State in the first round) and has 20+ games 5 straight years, and the baseball program is solid as well.

ACC has had mixed results today. UVA lost to S. Carolina 4-3. Liberty beat Duke. ND won big over Central Michigan. NC State is up 7-1 on Bama. GT is up 7-6 on Indiana State.

the Florida Gators took advantage of hosting their regional by losing to USF, and are now down 16-1 to South Alabama in an elimination game.

Miami is at that regional...

Duke eliminated by Liberty Sunday afternoon. Miami, UNC, and FSU also out.

...and Wake hangs on to a coach who promised a chance to get to Omaha but couldn't even qualify for the ACC tournament. Sometimes I do agree with DR when he says we have ourselves to blame for settling for mediocrity.

ECU is off to their 6th super regional in 20 years. But, Wake has another ridiculous buy-out situation with a bad coach. It will take decades to get Wellman's stink out of the AD. Wake is easily the worst team in North Carolina this year (obvs can't compete with State, UNC, Duke). Campbell, Charlotte, ECU, UNCW, and probably UNCG and Elon are all better programs right now than Wake. Just another embarrassment for Wake fans. Wish Currie would blow this up too. But, hey when the big donors are buddies with the coach, coach stays.

Good point, couch is friends with Walter. When is the stadium project fully complete ? Maybe they’ll suck all the money they can outta couch and then can Walter once his checks fully fund the stadium.

Good friends or not, I have to think Couch would be disappointed in seeing his big contribution to Wake resulting in less than acceptable results. I'd think he would be receptive to seeing at least movement toward improvement in his named park. The team playing defense like the keystone cops, too often, would be a start.

So NC State, who started rough, near the bottom of the ACC with us, who lost to us once due to a multiple error game, ends up in the ACC Championship game and now a Super Regional. Coaching to improve as the season progresses, and inspiring a young mistake-prone team is probably the 2 best qualities a college manager needs more than anything else to have a successful program. Recruits and facilities aren't really that important.

State had a weird season. They went 13-12 at home, but had an incredible 17-3 record on the road (one of those three losses was @ WF). They play best 2 out of 3 games at #1 Arkansas for a spot in Omaha.

DeVonte Brown had a disappointing season for the Pack, but he killed it in the regional going 6 for 12 with 3 HRs, 6 runs and 7 RBI in three games. Definitely helped his draft stock.

I think Arkansas advances fairly easily. But kudos to a good job by Avent. You think our boards are tough on Walter, go back mid-season and read the Pack posts.

UVA advances with a walk-off win over ODU. The Wahoos get Dallas Baptist in the Super Regional as DBU upset both TCU and Oregon State to advance.

So, the matchups:

NC State @ Arkansas
Texas Tech @ Stanford

ECU @ Vandy
Ole Miss @ Arizona

S. Florida @ Texas
Notre Dame @ Miss. State

LSU @ Tennessee
Dallas Baptist v. UVA (not sure who is hosting or whether it's at a neutral field.

11 of the top 16 seeds advanced. The unseeded teams to advance are: DBU, UVA, LSU, NC State and S. Florida

Conference breakdown:

6 SEC
3 ACC
2 Big 12
2 Pac 12
2 American Athletic
1 Missouri Valley

Nice walk-off dinger in the 10th by the UVA starting pitcher.

Apparently DBU v UVA is still in Columbia, SC.

Ah yes, the Wellman ego bonus. That’s where you get a huge bonus based on how incredible Wellman thought his hire was instead of how you actually perform. Such a sweet deal.
