6'11'' sophomore Bobby Portis is a likely NBA 1st round pick in the next draft. Long and skilled.

Yeah I figured it would be 8-10 points. If we don't do a better job of protecting the ball we're going to be in a lot of trouble. Mike Anderson teams traditionally force a lot of turnovers and an early season game is ripe for high pressure defense across the court. We need to watch for traps and Madison needs to make substantially better decisions on when to pass it and when to pick up his dribble.

Anybody think that we may not have done any adjustments for Tulane's press so that we don't tip our hand for the Arkansas game? Especially since we had the game in hand? Or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

Absolutely not. We were trying to to our best.

It's the #1, #2 and #3 thing the team should be practicing against every day until the AR game and very prominently worked on the rest of the year. It's a big weakness.

by "every day" you mean "today"?

Let's see... We were 3 point favorites against Tulane and won by 22, so that means we'll beat Arkansas by 8.

From an Arkansas fan on TOB:

A little more about us

PG: Rashad Madden (6'5, 182) Not a true "PG", but can score in a lot of ways and is a senior leader on the court. Probably our 3rd best player.

SG: Anthlon Bell (6'3, 185) Streaky shooter. Made 8 threes against Ole Miss last year but can go ice cold at times. Also has a nice mid range game but this is his first year starting.

SF: Michael Qualls (6'6, 205) One of the most athletic players in the country IMO. Made sportscenter's top 10 more than any other player last year with his dunks and can hit the 3 as well. Will likely lead the team in steals. Our 2nd best player.

PF: Bobby Portis (6'11, 242) Still a little raw, but is projected as a lottery pick in next year's draft. Can hit the mid range shot and works hard on the glass. Posting up isn't his strength but he's improved in that area so far this year.

C: Moses Kingsley (6'10, 230) Didn't play that much until late last year but led the team in blocks. His offense is still raw but he has a ton of potential and was a highly rated recruit two years ago.

6th man: Alandise Harris (6'6, 230) Bull in a china shop. He will play PF when we go small and Portis moves to C. He is really physical and drives to the basket well especially against undersized players. However he gets reckless and throws up some dumb shots sometimes. Athletic though and our 2nd best dunker after Qualls.

We are projected to finish 3rd in the SEC but that isn't really saying a whole lot haha. But most expect us to make the dance as an 8-11 seed.

This could be a big game for Thomas if he can stay out of foul trouble, and if we can handle their press. That second if is a lot bigger than the first, probably.

Arkansas is pretty firmly on the bubble to start the season. They got out rebounded by Alabama State by double digits and even though Portis is a MAN he is certainly still a little bit of a project.

Arkansas is likely better than us but I think this will be a pretty evenly matched game. I expect them to wear us down a bit in the second half and win by 6 or so.

Also, is this a readily available statistic: "Made sportscenter's top 10 more than any other player last year with his dunks?"

Win or lose -- can we all not get too high or too low? It's still just the 3rd game of the season.

TRUFF. Although a win would be a pretty major accomplishment. I fully anticipate this team to have pretty high highs and pretty low lows. Should be an exciting season.

I'm not really expecting this to be close... Going up against a team that plays as fast and as loose as Arkansas is going to be hell for our turnover problem. Maybe we'll end the season better than Arkansas (though that's pretty unlikely), but they're not a good matchup for this team right now, IMO.

...and that's okay.
