Wake Forest Football Recruiting

Tayshaun Burney, 2024 CB, Wake Forest commit (online stream): There might not be a better true slot defender in the Sunshine State this cycle than Tayshaun Burney. He’s under 5-foot-10, but he plays much bigger than the measurements suggest and can make stops at the line of scrimmage. In Carrollwood Day’s 56-34 win, Burney returned a short kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown. He won’t be for everyone, but he’s the type of prospect that Wake Forest has had plenty of success developing in the past. -- Ivins

Clawson and staff have proved remarkably successful at this and have done very well overall in avoiding portal transfers leaving the program.

NCHSAA announced today that state fb championships in December will be split between Kenan/UNC and Carter-Finley/NCSU. Wake used to be a part of the rotation, and have to think with our facilities that hosting can be a good recruiting tool. Don't know if Wake took themselves out or this was the NCHSAA's decision. It could be as simple as NC going from 8 to 4 champions, so easier to just play all 4 games on a Saturday and at 2 locations, vs. 3 sites previously including Wake and a couple of Friday night games..

Several years back I was the staff member in charge of depositing the money from hosting the state championships. It was completely cash only, so I had to have a campus police escort to the bank with a literal suitcase full of cash after that weekend.

And now I’m texting Nick Burney to see if they’re related. Hope he shows even half the character/leadership.

I always wondered how you were able to afford that Ferrari...

Kinda crazy to think Tayshaun is young enough to be Nick Burney's kid.

College Football Recruiting

Order of importance, according to me:

1. Quarterback --- you have to have a QB
2. Interior Defensive Line --- if you cannot stop the run, teams will just run it all day and destroy you. NFL teams tend to get antsy and start slinging it around.
3. Cornerback --- it's scary when you pay to attend a game, then learn the starting CB is out, having tweaked an ankle in practice. Backup CB is trouble.
4. Offensive line --- it's debatable, as this could definitely be higher.

  • Walton is 5-0
  • "field general"
  • "not ideal measurables," under 6'
  • "sprays it around the field"
  • 16 TDs, 1 INT
  • 61% completion rate
  • over 10 yards/attempt
  • "a name to know in the future - will have a ton of success in W-S"

Wonder if Wake is recruiting Jason Willis Jr out of Bunker Hill HS in Claremont. My daughter goes there. They are 7-0. I bet he runs for 175 yds per game. He is very different from the other 21 players on the field. Only a Jr. About 5'9 185. Watched alot of H S football and he is best I have seen.

His Twitter is all Duke. None of the Wake Forest staff is following him and he has not posted anything from Wake. So it looks like not at the moment.

Other names from list of top 125 in DE (Brad Myers, delawareonline.com)
O'Dell Teel, so QB (only non Sr QB in top 50)
Jason Hoskins. 6-3, three forty Guard.
William Harmon, So, RB,DB, 5-10?170.

Over half of the WF 2024 commits will be in attendance tomorrow including Hecklinski. Please be sure to say extremely positive things to him and his future teammates. ;)
