Wake Golf 2024 - Women’s ACC Tournament April 18-21; Men's ACCT April 19-22

Kudos to everyone's favorite poster for hosting a women's golf event today tomorrow. The Lady Deacs head to the Midwest to test a stout field in the Windy City Collegiate Classic.

Link to scoring here....

I'm sure the women's field will relish WCD's witty commentary about tiers and footwear. Can't get enough.

WF women finish T4 out of 15.

Kuehn and Pate were the low scorers for WF at -6 T11.

Brenda-Corrie Kuehn (WF golf great, WF HOF, married a Deac and now a mom of a Deac great) is making noise in the US Senior Women's Am.

She finished 16th in stroke play. Won her first two matches, and then took out the #1 seed in the round of 16. BCK is now in the quarters at Troon CC in Scottsdale.

You can follow her progress here...

FWIW, BCK is playing against World Golf HOFer Hollis Stacy's sister in the quarters.

Mom of a deac goat*

Figure Rachel will retire as probably the most decorated deac golfer of all time?

Not sure about that. Jennifer Kupcho was:
  • The NCAA Individual Champ.
  • The First Winner of Augusta National Women's Am
  • Was the number one ranked Am in the world
Rachel has a team title, but Kupcho was very accomplished.

BCK plays the semi-final this afternoon against Linda Jeffrey; long day in the Scottsdale heat.

The Lady Deacs just started round 2, and are currently tied for the lead at the Stephen's Cup in Dallas.

Results can be found here

The Deacs lineup includes Soph Anne-Sterre Den Dunne, in lieu of Brooke Rivers, and ASDD is playing very well.

The tourney is televised on Golf Channel starting at 5 pm.

Just spitballin' here, but an idea to liven up halftime at one of our football games and shine some light on our championship-caliber (in particular women's) golf teams:
Have a sponsor or sponsors put up a couple thou$and for charity. Place a fairly large Deacon-themed target on midfield/50 yd. line, and women's golf team on one goal line and men the other. Each player (which should be 10 or so per side) gets a wedge shot to the target; a point for getting it inside the target, plus maybe a bonus for the center (how about the Arnold Palmer branded logo?); one team black balls and the other gold so you can tell from the stands which side is wracking up the points. Winning side gets to choose the charity of their choice for the $$ to go to. I might actually hang in my seat to watch that.
(And yes I realize you can't have people hitting golf balls off the turf; each player would have a small tee mat at his/her disposal)

There's a meet and greet opportunity with the Currie and the WF Women's golf team in Atlanta today:

Calling all Wake Forest alumni, donors and fans! Join Wake Forest Athletics, Director of Athletics John Currie, Head Women’s Golf Coach Kim Lewellen, Associate Head Coach Ryan Potter, and our 2023 Women’s Golf National Champions on October 12 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm for a night of fun and celebration at the Capital City Club – Downtown (7 John Portman Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA 30303). The team will be in town for their practice rounds, getting ready to compete in the 2023 East Lake Cup October 30 through November 1. We are thrilled to continue celebrating this team’s incredible accomplishments from last Spring with the Wake Atlanta Community as they prepare to defend their title this upcoming season!

The East Lake Cup at the Atlanta Athletic Club moves on to match play today. The Deacs play USC and Stanford plays A&M. Winners play tomorrow for the Cup.

Winning Women's ACC golf championship is going to be as hard as winning a national title once Stanford is in the ACC.

Today's semifinal against USC is a rematch of the NCAA Title match last May in Scottsdale, after USC upset Stanford in the semifinals.

Three current WF golfers (Kuehn, Chacarra and Rhodes) and four current Trojans played in that match.

ASDD is struggling today, losing too many holes to par. All the rest seem to be playing well. Macy Pate continues to play amazing golf.
