Wake Golf 2024 - Women’s NCAA Regionals May 6-8; Men's NCAA Regionals May 13-15

Pate or Rivers has to take the 5th spot (assuming our 6 from last year slides into the 4 to start) Not sure who has been the better player so far. Guessing the fall will be a good trial season to figure out who the 5 are for the spring.

No inside knowledge, but would think we try to add somebody midyear? Would make sense to get more than 6.

True, but it might be tough to sign up another great player who may not ever get to play. Brooke Rivers just missed the cut at last weeks LPGA event and she might start out as the 6th (last) player.

The WF ladies have teed off in the Annika Intercollegiate and both frosh are in the starting 5:

Annika Intercollegiate Scores

BTW, the WF men played poorly to open the season finishing 10th out of 12 teams in the State of Washington. Haas's kid did not play.

Nice little start to the first round for the ladies. At -9 and in second place as the back nine winds down.

Pate and Brooks are in the lineup. Pate is -2 and Brooks is -3 with no bogeys (tied for 4th individually).

Deacon women are tied for 2nd, and as evidence that this team reloads, two of WF's top returning players Rachel Kuehn and Carolina Lopez-Chacarra finished with the 4th and 5th on the WF team ladder today. Great start to the college careers for Macy Pate (-2) and Brooke Rivers (-4). Looks like Coach Lewellyn has another stacked squad.

In 2nd after the second round, 3 shots back of South Carolina and 4 shots ahead of Oregon.

Mimi Rhodes is tied for the individual lead, and Rivers is in 8th, with Pate and CLC tied for 16th.

Pretty scary that we are doing this well already against top tier competition when Kuehn is having a "bad" week for her.

Final round just started - let's get this W.

Disappointing to finish third but an elite field and our #1 player WS non counting. Macy and Brooke both stepped up in their first events which is key as we defend our natty. Nice to see the other ACC teams in the field well below us.

Wake is hosting the Highlands Invitational in men's golf in Illinois today and tomorrow. We are playing two teams. Looks like the freshman from Germany currently occupies the fifth spot on the A team (over Boyd Owens and Collin Adams). Will be interesting to see who ultimately grabs that spot as we work our way into the fall. I would think the top four are pretty locked in by Brennan, Kennon, McLauchlan, and Meisel. Kyle Haas is slotted in as the 5th starter on the B team.

Not sure at all how that correlates to where they stand on the team once you're out of the top 5, but still interesting to note.

Wake is in first place in the tourney through nine holes. We have 3 guys (our 3-5) tied for the individual lead at -3.

Good start.

The Duke No. 1 golfer shot a 34 with no pars on his front nine today. 6 birdies, 2 bogeys, and a double. What a psycho.

Deacs lead at -16 after round one, up by 2 shots over UVA and 6 over Duke. Round two teeing off already.

Brennan eagled 18 to take a one shot lead in the individual. Kennon and Haberer are tied for 3rd individually at -4.

The B team isn't faring as well - even overall as the wind down the first round. Marco Florioli (great name for the Italian) is -2, with Owens and Adams at -1 a piece. Unfortunately they are taking a +4 as the fourth counting score.

They are, however, beating half the field. Not the strongest tournament we will play in all year, especially at the bottom.

Down to the final 9 holes at the Highlands Invitational. Deacs trail UVA by 1, and Brennan is tied for the individual lead.

Scoreboard

We ran down UVA and now lead by 2 with 4 team holes left. Brennan leads the overall by a shot. Let's finish this out.

Nice stuff from the guys.

UVA tied us at -30 and we both have two holes left total. 18 is a par 5 so we are going to need at least one birdie in all likelihood.

Looks like Scotty birdied 18 to give us a 1 stroke lead? Or did we re-tie?

Actually looks like Mizzy went eagle-birdie-birdie on 18 to catch us since Brennan parred it.

Kind of a weird situation, Brennan needed par to win the individual but birdie to win the team?

Does this just end in a tie?

Also it appears UVA shot -4 (on drill down) but team page says -3 🤷‍♂️

Finishing the three-round tourney yesterday, the WF Women just levelled the field at the Schooner Classic in OK. In the 15 team field, WF won by 22 shots. It was WF largest margin of victory in more than 2 years. Rachel Kuehn, Mimi Rhodes and Carolina Chacarra tied for the lowest WF golfers and finished 3rd overall in the field.
