Wake Ranked 24th (Coaches)

Yes, it's nice. But we can't over look BC. This won't be the team that spit the bit against Kansas. Their chance for a good season is on the line and we're in their way.

Why doesn't Clawson have a vote in the Coach's poll? Looks like the majority of ACC coaches are part of the list -

Chris Ash, Rutgers; Dino Babers, Syracuse; Craig Bohl, Wyoming; Jeff Brohm, Purdue; Neal Brown, West Virginia; Troy Calhoun, Air Force; Steve Campbell, South Alabama; Rod Carey, Temple; Jamey Chadwell, Coastal Carolina; Geoff Collins, Georgia Tech; David Cutcliffe, Duke; Mark Dantonio, Michigan State; Butch Davis, Florida International; Ryan Day, Ohio State; Manny Diaz, Miami (Fla.); Dana Dimel, Texas-El Paso; Dave Doeren, North Carolina State; Sonny Dykes, Southern Methodist; Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M; Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern; James Franklin, Penn State; Hugh Freeze, Liberty; Willie Fritz, Tulane; Scott Frost, Nebraska; Justin Fuente, Virginia Tech; Thomas Hammock, Northern Illinois; Bryan Harsin, Boise State; Clay Helton, Southern California; Tyson Helton, Western Kentucky; Tom Herman, Texas; Doc Holliday, Marshall; Jay Hopson, Southern Mississippi; Mike Houston, East Carolina; Mike Leach, Washington State; Lance Leipold, Buffalo; Tim Lester, Western Michigan; Chip Lindsey, Troy; Seth Littrell, North Texas; Scot Loeffler, Bowling Green; Rocky Long, San Diego State; Chad Lunsford, Georgia Southern; Gus Malzahn, Auburn; Chuck Martin, Miami (Ohio); Doug Martin, New Mexico State; Jeff Monken, Army; Phillip Montgomery, Tulsa; Dan Mullen, Florida; Ken Niumatalolo, Navy; Ed Orgeron, LSU; Gary Patterson, TCU; Chris Petersen, Washington; Jeremy Pruitt, Tennessee; Matt Rhule, Baylor; Nick Saban, Alabama; Tony Sanchez, UNLV; Kirby Smart, Georgia; Jonathan Smith, Oregon State; Frank Solich, Ohio; Jake Spavital, Texas State; Rick Stockstill, Middle Tennessee; Kevin Sumlin, Arizona; Dabo Swinney, Clemson; Jeff Tedford, Fresno State; Matt Wells, Texas Tech; Kyle Whittingham, Utah.

UVA is exactly why rankings matter, even now.

Why is Virginia 8 spots higher than us?

Are Pitt, FSU, ODU and W&M really that much better than Rice, Elon, Utah State and U*NC?

FSU destroyed us last year and many teams were competitive against Notre Dame and Clemson last year.

We need to change that.

You really think we’ll play our starters most of the game? Do you have inside information?[/QUOTE

I’ve pretty much called the first four games exactly how they would play out and getting a ton of pm’s asking me to clue everyone in on the BC game ...

If we want to change the National perception we need to take it personal when the line comes out at -4 against BC and win by a couple touchdowns

.

Been explained to me as a blind draw/raffle. Think he's been a voter each of the last 2 years.

Also, I count 7 ACC coaches: Babers, Collins, Cutcliffe, Diaz, Doeren, Fuente, Dabo. Would imagine every conference has half or close to half of their coaches as voters.

You can [for right now at least] make an argument that Pitt is the best win, and FSU is still viewed as F$U. Plus, they won it in Doak Campbell.

UNcheat *COULD'VE* been as decent a win as Pitt if UNcheat had beaten the Appies. Utah State is a win that might increase it's value, or it might not.

ODU, W&M, Elon, Rice are all basically the same.

Long story short is thus; UVA has what appears to be a slightly better resume right now, are playing well and not generally screwing up.
Essentially, they'll be ranked above us until they lose. Or we do a black swan and beat Clempson or something.

UVA’s win against FSU was in Charlottesville not Tallahassee. But yes FSU still has the name factor.

Polls matter now for recognition and publicity.

Newspapers around the country do "top 25 roundup" write ups that give a paragraph or two to every team in the top 25.

ESPN crawl shows top 25 scores about three times as often as the other scores. Get the Wake name in front of eyeballs as often as possible.

Bragging rights and recruiting. Wake IS a top 25 team sounds a lot better than Wake is trying to be a top 25 team.

Getting ranked is the next step in the Clawson progression.

Say what you want about polls not meaning much, but they do in perception and recruiting.
