Wake Tennis 2017-2018

Yeah Wake cruising to easy victory.

Going to play Columbia at 4pm on Friday May 18.

cungu struggling a at 6 — are we allowed to change the lineup? and if so, would we?

gojo wins in tiebreak. not good to blow 2 breaks like that but does look like cocks guy had only lost 4 times all year.

Curious if #6 guy for SC was a stack, some teams may put better players at 5 and 6 and hope to steal the doubles against us.

Rrezi had the trainer called on 6. It was incredibly hot today - 93, no wind, lots of sun.

Seraphim was looking solid at 5. Gojo and Bar were cruising in their second sets when the wheels fell off. Luckily Gojo was able to right the ship.

Our quarter of the bracket went chalk with all seeded teams advancing. In the bottom half, 4 seed Stanford lost to Ole Miss which I’m guessing was a pretty large upset on our side.

Deacs have 16 seed Columbia on Friday at 4. If they win that one, winner of 9 TCU/8 Illinois on Sunday at 4.

#1 Wake plays #16 this Friday (May 18th). The match is supposed to be at the Wake outdoor at 4 PM, but the weather is looking rough. There are 8 matches that need to take place that day, so if it rains they will use the Wake and UNC indoor facilities. Wake will get to stay Winston as we are the top seed. UNC will not be allowed to go to their indoor, as it would provide a home court advantage.

Columbia is good, and they are probably better indoors than outdoors (this is true of most northern teams). Of course Wake is also quite good indoors, as we won the indoor national championship this year. The #1 for Columbia beat Petros this past fall, so he's obviously solid (though Petros wasn't at his best in that match).

I understand weather is a major factor, but it seems odd to me that they would play any of the outdoor matchups from the sweet 16/elite 8 on indoors since there's already an indoors championship.

It's all about the weather. They will do anything they can to play the matches outdoors, including playing into the late night (1-2 am), but at some point you have to just bite the bullet and play the matches. Last year at UGA they had to use their indoor courts (they only have 4) and the indoor courts at GT, over an hour away in Atlanta.

There are a ton of matches that need to be played, with 16 men's teams, 16 women's teams, 64 men's singles, 64 women's singles, 32 men's doubles, and 32 women's doubles teams.

Plus the indoor Championship isn't an NCAA recognized championship so they probably view it a little differently
