Washington Post: Jacob Lew's comments; Budget process explanation

In other words - the administration is full of crap.

Surprised there hasn't been any discussion about the latest "budget". I use that word loosely since it is 3.8 trillion and proposes yet another trillion dollar deficit.

If the GOP would act like adults, about $100B would be cut from the deficit.

Further the deficit has gone down several hundred billion over the Obama term. Remember the FY ending in the fall of 2009 was not Obama's. The spending and revenues were signed by W.

I really wish you would stop this crap. Bush submitted the budget. Obama was in office for 8 months of that fiscal year and had substantial majorities in congress. He inherited a mess, but there's no reason to try to mislead everyone with your silly spin.

BTW: "The public debt has increased by over $500 billion each year since fiscal year (FY) 2003, with increases of $1 trillion in FY2008, $1.9 trillion in FY2009, and $1.7 trillion in FY2010. As of February 9, 2012 the gross debt was $15.356 trillion"

There's no misleading. Sepnding for FY 2008 is on W. Just like spending for FY 2000 was on Clinton and FY 2016 will be on Obama.

It's about as consistent as you can get.

BTW form the CBO's website"Budget and Economic Outlook. 2. In its baseline, CBO projects that the 2012
federal budget deficit will be about $1.1 trillion, and that the economy will
continue ...

this is from the Heritage Foundation. They really support Obama don't they:

W didn't sign off on all of the spending in fiscal 08. You claimed he did...that's misleading.

But the FACTS CBO do show what I said, but NICE TRY at avoding that fact.. ..the deficits HAVE gone down according to the CBO.

Come on you can do it. You can say RJ's correct and I'm wrong.

There are only two options here:

RJ & the CBO are right and 71 is wrong
71 is right and he knows more than the CBO

Which is it?

Looking forward to your sanrky response and trying to come up with why the CBO is wrong.

You should probably look at the graph you tried to link (and I corrected for you). 09 deficit was up dramatically. '10 deficit looks to be even higher. The '11 is projected to be lower, but we're only 4 1/2 months into it.

it's been over 1000 days since a budget was passed

this is a major part of the problem

Bush was partly responsible for FY 2009 (let's get our fiscal years right). He intentionally deferred a lot of spending bills and decisions to the incoming Obama administration. Bush likely would've made many of the same decisions Obama did, but he was not responsible for a healthy chunk of that FY 2009 spending. Regardless, if we look at FY 2009 as an anomalous year and outlier due to bailouts and the economy, then we are still looking at unsustainable deficits and ones that are bound to be worse with the massive health care bill due to come into play.

Remember when the President promised that each new dollar of spending he authorized would be met with a corresponding cut in spending elsewhere? Ah yes! And then there was the promise to halve the Federal deficit from 2008 levels by the end of his first term in office. Another smash hit.

And that chart is clearly an illusion. The 2013 deficit is projected to be almost 1 trillion USD, not half that amount.

Oh, and here's a nifty chart that attributes most of 2009 to Bush (save for 200 billion for Obama's stimulus that's entirely on him). Nice job Obama!!

I was wrong about 2009 to 2010. 71 was wronfg about going up every year.

The 2013 projected deficit is about $800B vs. a bit over $1.5T for his first budget. to say that's "fraudulent" is flat out wrong.

If being off by 3-6% out of $1.5T is a fraud, then it's about a preconceived determination and not results.

And you are wrong again. The 2013 projected deficit (and mind you it is just the projection of the WH, which is prone to be wrong) is over 900 Billion USD.

There are no proposals to reform entitlements from this President. None. There's loads of new spending and lots of new fees and taxes though. Hurray!

Let's use your numbers not the CBO's.

$900B vs 1.5T is 60% of it.

To get that close four years out is not a fraud by any legitimate parameter.

Tytpical of you...when shown how outrageous and without merit your BS statement is you cannot be honest and admit you are wrong.

Your arrogance and lack of integrity are among the staples of all the Wake boars in which you have been involved.

Talknig to yourself again?

You use the numbers, then when they don't fit your needs you decide they arfen't worth anything.

Contact lenses are less transparent than you.
