Assuming Bates’s replacement has to play there will be very noticeable improvement in the Carrier Dome when he plays. He will not look like Bates but he will not look like the guy who played at ND either.
It’s not a foregone conclusion that the back field is in terrible shape only with Colburn and Robinson.
(If Bird doesn’t get healthy soon he will be further behind Colburn in the rotation. Same goes for Carney.) We don’t need them playing hurt anyway.
But no doubt we’re a heck of a lot better with them back playing if healthy.
