WFU Hoops: '23-'24 Roster Construction Thread: +Miller, Sallis, Reid, & Canka

What is the something about the student experience at Wake that is different/worse in the eyes of an athlete than the experience at UNC/Duke/elsewhere? There has to be something right?

What explains why our guys always leave just a bit before they’re ready to dominate for us, while UNC and Duke have guys on draft boards that regularly return even after being big time college contributors?
Except, of course, the best power forward in the history of basketball.

Different era than the last 20 or so years but yes we had one excellent example 26 years ago that went our way.

Flip side of this is that Forbes is showing his dudes get drafted, which will help with recruiting.

Now that may just result in getting another guy who can get 3ppg before getting drafted on potential, but that's another point altogether.
No one will relate Bobi to Wake because they never got to see him do anything in a Wake uniform.

Duke has the ACC (and, I think, national) rookie of the year - a kid who is tall but plays with wing skills, and he comes back for another year. We have a rookie who can't get on the floor for a team that doesn't make the NIT until we have an injury - and he leaves for the draft. There is no rationalization that makes it make sense - other than "screw Wake Forest!"

Counterpoint: draft night will show it.
Yea, for like a minute. They will show all 5 of his highlights in a Wake uniform and that will be it. It would be different if people had seen a year of highlights from him in a Wake uniform, including, hopefully, some meaningful games in March and April - but nooooo...

Stop being so fucking miserable. god hates Wake. We may finally need to embrace Satan. I'm OK with the trade off.

I haven’t read everything here in the past couple of days, just too much to keep up with. But anyone who thinks that Bobi was coming back was fooling themselves. Guys in that situation never come back. The hopefully/maybe/could-be promise of a seven figure payday in the immediate future trumps all.

Only saw one tweet on this but apparently we might be after UCLA transfer Abramo Canka? Italian 6'6 guard that can also play the 3 - was underutilized by Cronin & might have untapped potential just like Sallis did for the Zags. Didn't think much of it but then I saw Mit Shah and the Deacon sports account following him

So guess we don't have the NIL funds to make a 2nd round type salary payment for 1 year if he doesn't go 1st round to entice him to stay and improve his earninngs potential @ WF?

In good news, we may finally make the tournament as a 14/15 seed when we win the Scrappy Leftovers conference since our facilities are so much better than Marshall and James Madison.

They have to actually go to classes at Wake instead of NC Central. In addition, they aren’t always BMOC at Wake since there are less people and, due to that, less people care who they are, including in the community.
There’s also less diversity on campus. I realize this has gotten better, but it’s still an issue.
