WFU Hoops: '24-'25 Roster Construction Thread: +Spillers/Biliew/Cosby/Johnson/Abass

Players shouldn't be able to skip scrimmages except maybe a list the league agrees doesn't need to scrimmage. The combine should be considered a tryout to play professional basketball and one component of that is playing basketball.

There's a new pre-combine 247 article that features Baba. He hasn't been called up to the combine but could be asked to fill in during the Tuesday/Wednesday scrimmages if enough players skip. He mentioned K-State, Wake, FAU, Nebraska, and Kentucky as programs that have reached out. But he said he's shut that down and he's focused on a "couple options."

Abbas Nigerian but committed via a developmental school/program in South Africa? Maybe I made that up.

I'm going to operate that we get Baba and KJ. And if so, here is my breakdown come January of 2025 for a 10 man rotation.

KJ - 24 Ty'Laur - 16
Cam - 30 Cosby - 10
Omaha - 15 - Parker 15 Baba - 10
Baba - 15 Spillers 20 - Omaha 5
Efton - 28 Abass - 12

Cam 30
Efton 28
KJ 24
Baba 25
Omaha 20
Spillers 20
Ty'Laur - 16
Parker 15
Abass 12
Cosby 10

I don't know why we'd have all these guys commit unless minutes are to be spread out this year with a deep rotation. It's hard to leave out MMM, who could make a jump...If Baba and/or KJ don't come, and Sallis or a portal stud Sallis replacement comes, then everything looks different. Lots of moving parts. We might legit have 13 ACC level players this year which would be insane given the landscape of college basketball. But I was itching to drop some premature, hot projections for my fans.

And good lord, where does Juke project to play? He didn't come here to sit all season. This years minutes projection isn't fair.

Lemme do another one...I'm still operating Sallis is gone...This time we have a stud Sallis replacement who is a fringe NBA guy currently at the combine. Baba does not join us in this scenario, but we do get KJ. Still not sure what to do with Juke, Marion and need more minutes for Parker. Here's my 10 man rotation come Jan 2025 under this scenario.

KJ - 24 Ty'Laur - 16
Portal Stud - 30 Cosby 10
Cam - 30 Parker 10
Omaha - 20 Spillers 20
Efton - 28 Abass 12

Portal Stud - 30
Cam - 30
Efton - 28
KJ - 24
Omaha - 20
Spillers - 20
Ty'Laur - 16
Abass - 12
Cosby - 10
Parker - 10

I don't see Juke being left out of the rotation completely. Especially if we don't have Sallis or a stud unknown.

combo-guard height, but wing length

very skinny for that combo

The only players from last year's combine close to that height/weight were Isaiah Wong and Judah Mintz. Both had a shorter wingspan. Among guys who were a little taller and got drafted in the 1st round, Podz was 6'3.75/203.8/6'5.5 and Keyontae Johnson was 6'4/238.6/7'0.

Sallis has been compared to Malaki Branham who was 6'4/194.8/6'10 in 2022.
Alondes was 6'3.75/209/6'7.

Juke had 29 points and 4 reb. Only one other player scored over 18.

Bottom line is that Sallis needs to come back another year and get his NIL-bonus 2 steaks per recruit. Don't even bother walking around the buffet line. Put him in a wheelchair and wheel him around the buffet line. Can't risk losing calories (or spraining an ankle) walking.
