Wilbekin on Kennard, Why?

At different points in the game tonight we tried Wilbekin, Crawford, Woods, and Arians on Kennard. He shot 100% from 3 against all of them.

Duke used whoever Wilbekin was guarding to screen for Kennard a few times, forcing a switch and giving Kennard an open look. So we used Wilbekin to try to deny him the ball and whoever's man screened would switch to challenge a shot. But it ended up being Collins who was picked, not a guard, and he hesitate on the closeout and got stuck doing nothing.

The problem is just Wilbekin being on the floor at all. We're up and need a stop and he's a horrible defender. He gets 26 minutes, makes one shot, gets zero boards, one bullshit assist and one bullshit steal. We don't trust McClinton, fine. They're playing 3 guards so Dinos has nobody he can defend. It's just a fucking shit situation because we have no athletic 3 we can depend on to stop anyone. As was discussed ad-nauseum beforehand, in crunch time it bit us in the ass.

Whew, for a minute I thought coaching might have had something to do with this loss. Thanks for setting the peons straight. Nothing we could have done, guise! Not sure why we bothered to take the court.

You're desperate and flailing. Not a good look. We know you have Manning's back, but it's OK to criticize him once in a while. Gives off the aroma of credibility. Oh look, there's that word again.

Duke ran Kennard off 2 or 3 picks every possession. A switch to a 3-2 zone would quickly nullify that strategy. Wake has the personnel to run it well - it would have allowed us to play Collins and Moore down low to rebound better and complete defensive possessions (which was our true Achilles heel at the end of the game). It's usually harder to rebound out of zone, but we were struggling to get defensive rebounds at the end because we were playing small.

DM is an egomaniac. It is always his way and yet never hi fault. Strange

Where's Cornelius Hudson when we need him?

The last 4 minutes of the northwestern, Clemson and duke games have 1 thing in common. Our best player did not take a shot. Riddle me that????

Because it's not a WFU basketball game if some pasty guard doesn't set a career high against us.

Kind of sort of reminds me back in the day when one Bob Staak would jump in the presser and say in amazement that every single team shot a record % against us but seemingly no newspaper sports reporters would ever think to ask the ever present question we were all thinking: did you ever think about teaching your teams how to play any defense.

We basically have 5 scholarship players that can't play in an ACC level game right now, or at least that is the thought of the coaching staff. Of the 8 that are left, 3 are 6'10" or taller and 4 are 6'3" or shorter. And then the only player in between is far from the most athletic player in the world. It's just a total killer that we can't get anything at all from Washington and Mitchell this season. The failure of the staff to bring an athletic 6'5 to 6'8" type of player that could actually contribute 10 or more minutes a game is going to end up torpedoing this season. When you are trying to rebuild, you can't have 75% of your frosh not play at all.

+1.

Collins, Moore and Dinos played a combined 53 minutes. That leaves 27 minutes with one low post player and four undersized perimeter players on the floor. The result was Duke had a seven rebound advantage and 12 offensive rebounds. Three of those offensive boards were in the final four minutes and led to eight of Dukes final 14 points. One of the few consistent aspects to the Deacs game is that they will blow a lead with the small lineup.
