The Trump Family Political Business

The conflicts span the globe, including a loan from the Bank of China and likely dealings with sovereign-wealth funds. Along the way Mr. Trump could expose himself to charges, however unfair, that he is violating the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, which prohibits public officials from accepting gifts or payment from foreign governments.

But this is the modern world of Washington. And remember that Hillary Clinton lost in part because the public didn’t want a President who mixed politics and personal gain at the State Department and Clinton Foundation. Millions of Americans have put their trust in Mr. Trump to succeed as President and improve their lives, not treat this as a four-year hiatus from his business. The presidential stakes are too high for Mr. Trump to let his family business become a daily political target.

Non-paywall:

Wall Street Journal to Trump: Liquidate your holdings

Now, I doubt he will, so this could be an ongoing Trump conflict of interest thread.

Also, I think the WSJ may be over-estimating the political impact. There is already so much scandal fatigue, and Trump is adept at spinning criticism as media bias against him. We keep waiting for Trump to act and be treated like a normal politician like it's right around the corner. (Plus the Dems aren't re-taking the House in 2018.)

Why would Trump do anything he doesn't want to at this point? He won the election even with all of the criticism. What's a little more going to do?

I suspect he didn't want to settle the Trump U case. He will be forced to do things he doesn't want to.

Maybe people should check every deposition to see if lied in any of them. :)

Of course that could be a lifetime job with all of his cases.

A scramble to assess the dangers of President-elect Donald Trump’s global business empire

Other Trump properties, like most large projects in the real estate industry, are buoyed by a river of loans, including from big banks in China and Germany. Deutsche Bank, Trump’s biggest lender, is negotiating what could be a multibillion-dollar settlement over housing-crisis-era abuses with the Justice Department, whose leaders will be Trump appointees.

The president-elect and his children also met with some of Trump’s Indian business partners on Tuesday, during which they discussed the U.S. relationship with India, according to the Economic Times, an Indian newspaper. Lodha declared in one promotion: “Congratulations Mr. President-Elect. The Trump name is rising high in Mumbai too.”

Other congratulations came from the head of Azerbaijan, where in the capital, Baku, plunging oil prices crashed the local economy and froze construction on a five-star hotel project set to bear Trump’s name.

While making millions of dollars through the branding deal, Trump partnered with a billionaire whose family is part of a long-ruling regime that the State Department has accused of corruption and human rights abuses.

Of course, there will be no conflicts of interest in "suggesting" diplomats and others doing business with the government to stay at his hotel.

During their meeting, Obama allegedly advised Trump to get a very strong White House Counsel. Trump needs somebody with government experience to advise him which existing business relationships are most problematic. Bob McDonnell's political career ended because of sketchy and shady relationships. Dems hate Trump and the establishment GOP wouid much rather have Pence than Trump as POTUS. Trump should take proper precautions, especially given his Crooked Hillary and drain the swamp campaign.

He ain't gonna do it

and if the press and crybaby liberals aren't careful, they are going to end up with PRESIDENT PENCE

be ware of the law of unintended consequences

No chance Trump does that. He does not and should not have to.

No need to reduce the candidate pool to life long politicians.

better to have a crazy that doesn't know what he's doing than a crazy that does

Trump was elected in large part due to his business success and relationships. Why would he get rid of them? They are what the electoral college obviously values.
The WSJ and most shrieking liberals continue to try to view him and his newfound position through the lens of historical politics and the presidency to mandate conformity. He was voted in as a giant middle finger to historical politics, historical roles of the president are out the window. So we'll sink or swim with his way as the new normal. As predicted, thanks Obama, the [Redacted] of presidents.
