How low our image has gone... from a head coach no less

I interpret this as a batsignal to "bring the Brinks truck" -- in the "I'm not interested in the Wake Forest (insert school, team) opening", boilerplate response that every coach gives this is as open ended of a response as I have seen. I view these comments as extremely positive -- if we want to play with the big boys, we need a big boy and need big boy money. He will absolutely listen.

I don't think he will come at this point, but there is no benefit in him expressing any interest in the Wake job right now.

Marshall is a protege and long time assistant of John Kresse @ Coll. of Chas. Kress, BTW, was a protege of Lou Carnesca i.e. St. Johns...Worse error CoC made was not replacing Kresse with Marshall when the former retired. Even though Marshall says one thing and does another. If Bz gets the boot, would look for his name in consideration if the stars in heaven align and the $$$ is right. As he has mentioned when he departed for Ks. that he will eventually return to the Carolinas...

This is what needs to be discussed. After what Wake Forest has been through -- why won't he? It is absolutely necessary.

You are asking for reasons. Wellman doesn't need any effing reasons. He's the premier and he dictates what is WFBB. If you've learned anything from the last 4 years you must know this.

I would bet that we could hire him if we really really wanted to and were committed to doing so.

But it won't happen because I don't think we care about winning enough.

Marshall knows what we paid [Redacted]. He knows what we got for that. He should hedge his position like this. Shit, $2M+ a year is what any program is going to have to pony up if you want to be competitive with a good coach. And to the extent that he's gone so far as to say what it would take to get him to "listen," knowing his current team and administration are hearing that, I'd say the door isn't closing as much as opening. It would be one thing if he were at a marquee program which had the resources to come back over the top and keep him. I don't know a lot about WSU but I don't think they're that. I don't discount his words being an attempt to get paid. Whether that's in Wichita or somewhere else, he's playing it right. I just hope some people on the WF BOT are listening.

Loh: did you really actually type "effing?" This ain't the other board...

Even though most of you guys think we are made of money, we aren't. There are limitations to what we can do and you amateur detectives who think you know what our athletic budget is really dont have a clue.

You do realize that he gave that quote to the flagship paper for the state that the head of the selection committee lives in? His he trying to stoke a fire in Wellman for seeding purposes?
"Marshall don't scare" (Omar Little voice)

Before this season started, everyone thought it would take an offer of $3M or so to get Marshall or Smart. I don't think anything has changed at this point. That would place the new coach at Wake within the top 10 salaries in the country.

Can we afford to pay $3M a year? I have no idea. Would we pay that much? I absolutely doubt it.

But if we went to Coach Marshall and offered him $15M over 5, I'd be fairly confident he would take it. And we should do it, no questions asked.

As I've stated before, the funny thing is we could have hired him for $1M a year or less if we had hired him in 2010. Now, the program is so fucked we have to pay a premium just to get a known winner to come here.

Agreed, that is actually extremely encouraging. He didn't say no. But I don't think Wellman will back up the Brinks truck.

If I were a Wichita State fan/supporter, I would be extremely upset and nervous with these comments. I believe that he has essentially announced that he will be available via open auction to the highest bidder at the end of this season.

clue us in

It has nothing to do with being made of money. It has to do with making wise investments. Investing $3m/year into Marshall will make a hell of a lot more money for the university than paying [Redacted] or another POS coach $1M/year.

In detective school, they call this a "clue."

Christ, $10 million has flown into the football program since Claw was hired 3 months ago. I'm sure some old rich white dude will gladly donate a ton of money to help pay Marshall's salary. C'mon, Ron.

That is the most honest and accurate statement from a coach regarding Wake ball we have gotten all year. Now I'd really like him.
