Fantrax/CDM Fantasy Sports

I lost 4 the first night, too, then got it back plus 3 yesterday. (just in my Gold) I have 4 pitchers going today so I hope to continue my bump today.

Still going back and forth whether to make a move with my remaining purchases. They call it the break, but we are really almost 2/3rds through the season.

pretty identical scenarios, you and I. Regret not picking up Travis for this 3 day stretch and not starting Kershaw. Got 5 guys going today though. Let's hope for 5 wins

I put Keuchel in this week for a 7th starter. That has worked out great so far since he has been brilliant today, and only 3 teams own him. Still down 1.5 points, but his win will take care of that. Arrieta will decide how my weekend turns out.

I am 50k from being able to load up on all my pitchers next week without using a purchase. BKF can tell you what a stingy conservative I can be. :)

lineup for this week

Dropped Souza for Jd Martinez. Souza has done about what I expected/hoped for, but I really don't need his low price anymore so he needs to be the guy to go. That being said, my team salary is high (for me anyways) for this time of year. Having high priced guys like Chapman, Desmond, and even Abreu is why it is so high. That should leave me pretty of wiggle room if I need cut my roster due to injuries. Still setting on 7 purchases so I feel I am still in the hunt. Especially since my team is 100 percent healthy! Doubtful I win any of my leagues, but could easily be in the money in all of them.....think my lineup this week is very good.

Still in 12th place in my Gold (12-35) but I have moved up into the next grouping. Martinez had a great first night for me going 3-5 with a HR, 2 rbi's, and 2 run scored.

I am not enjoying this week. Lost 10 points and my team hasn't been playing too too bad. Hope that doesn't mean I've hit my peak. I'm ready for Stanton to come back

You are in a tough league. I noticed that the top 5 teams in your league are 5th, 7th, 9th, 14th & 12th overall. With 8 leagues, only the top 2 teams in each league should be in the top 16 overall if all 8 leagues were of equal strength.

I have 1 Rookie league that 2nd place is 38th overall. Of course another one is 2-4-7-9-18. Northcoast is cleaning up so far this year. Last time I checked he was leading overall in both the Rookie and the Gold. He has huge leads in all my Rookie leagues.

I got a big win from Felix last night. Only 3 teams had him going this week. I had Felix/Scherzer/Kershaw all going hoping most teams wouldn't be able or want to afford all three. It paid off with my team moving into the top 10 for the first time in quite a while. Thinking about dropping Kluber for Fernandez (2 starts) next week. That would give me 2 top pitchers that hardly anyone owns in him and Keuchel. Thing is it is my hitting categories that need most of the help.

Runs scored and saves is what is hurting me in my Gold. Actually runs scored is killing me in all my leagues. That probably has a lot to do me giving up the SB category. (wins and saves are fine in my Rookie) My team is 100 percent healthy right now. Here is some moves I am looking at next week:

Brett Gardner for Adam Jones
Familia for either Chapman or Soria
Fernandez for Kluber or Pineda

If I keep Chapman then I probably will keep Pineda...Kluber then Soria. I worry a little about Soria losing his job or being traded again. I am looking at making all these moves next week. Just wonder if I should hold back till after the deadline for at least some of the moves. What do you (anyone) think?

The Nats showing interest in Papelbon is also a reason to wait. Storen has been great, but that addition could move him back to set-up man.

If you pick up Adam Jones, I hope you have better luck with him than I had. He started the year on fire, hitting .400 in April. I thought this was going to be the year he moved into super-star category and picked him up around the first of May.....then he proceeded to hit .239 in May (with 1 HR), .260 in June & .253 in July.

I've already commented on Fernandez. Other than that, I only feel pretty sure about one thing: A week from now there are going to be a lot of players....including some very good players....wearing a different uniform.

I have Adam Jones...would drop him for Brett Gardner.

Sorry, I didn't do my homework there. LOL. Gardner is having a great year....and he is in a great spot, hitting in the #2 slot in that Yankee lineup.

BTW, I'm up to 1-20 with my CDM points team....even though the Cubs let me down. Arrieta still got a solid 14 points with 6 innings & 8 K's. (Struck out the side in his last inning.) Rizzo & Bryant have been crap since the all-star break.

1st place in CDM's points league is only $600....but 1st place overall is $5,000.

While I need home runs as well, Jones is not getting it done. Gardner is another guy who gives me runs scored along with helping my BA. I recently added J. D. Martinez (who helps in 4 cats) and Pollock who scores a lot of runs. Started the day with just 7 points in runs scored. One guy wasn't going to make the difference, but I hope to double those points by the end of the year with those three. I am 8-32 right now so I am starting to get excited about my chances of ending up in the money. (spent weeks at 15th place) The Gardner move allows me total freedom with my lineup. Rumors are fling everywhere with closers being traded so I better wait a week on that move. They say the Nats are looking at Chapman/Papelbon/Kimbrel. Hard to understand with the year Storen is having so far. Makes me think I need to wait on any closer moves.

Is the CDM team the one that started after the break? I think I would like the points game. Maybe I will try that next year. Is it confusing managing both a roto team and a points team? Guys at work try to get me in their keeper league every year. I think after a couple years I would crush them. They have no idea how much research I/we do. lol

If Stanton comes back strong after a broken wrist he would be the exception....not the rule. Being his left hand may help, idk.

Glad to see you get off to a great start.

My talking about my team being a 100 percent healthy bit me in the ass. Arenado got hurt last night, but that haven't said how serious it is. I don't have 3rd base backed up so I may have to use yet another purchase next week. Probably go with Machado, though I have plenty of time to make up my mind.

I don't think Arenado is hurt too bad. Hopefully, today is the only game he will miss. Third Base is a well-stocked position this year with 4 really good options: Frazier, Donaldson, Arenado & Machado....and then Bryant could be a 5th one, though I'm beginning to think he may have been over-hyped a little bit due to that red-hot ST performance. He's still a good one...and cheap. I just don't think that on a production comparison he is up there with those other four right now....if you have the money to swing it.

Instead of dropping Jones for Gardner, I could drop Jones for either Donaldson or Frazier. That would also allow me to get Marte back in my lineup. Would leave me with just 7 outfielders, but would cover third base again. might not be a bad idea even if Arenado is good to go.

Without Jones these are my 7 outfielders. Pretty solid I think.

Marte
Betts
Trout
Pollock
J.D. Martinez
Harper
Cruz

I checked on all 3 of those 3rd baseman, and none of them have had a very good July. (Jones best BA) Donaldson did have better numbers as far as production. Jones had 5 HR's with only 7 rbi's. Believe I will put that move off another week. At one time I was ready to move Pujols, but decided to keep him another week since he had 7 home starts the next week. He had a big week and has done well ever since. (Jones has 7 home starts next week.) Arenado is playing today so there is no sense of urgency. There is going to be some players moving around this week that could change things. Cueto going to the Royals is a plus, imo. Changing leagues and going to a team with maybe the best defense in all of baseball. I will pick up Jose Fernandez next week.

Makes sense. Sounds like you have the situation well in hand. :)

(My team is playing pretty well today....should get a win & save from the Mets, along with 9 innings & 7 or 8 K's and Cain has a HR......and I've still dropped from 1-10 to 1-36. LOL. Those pitching points add up fast).

Familia blew the save in the 9th. Cost me a win, but it really hurt teams that had him and deGrom. I needed this win to offset a Cole win.

That knocked me out of the top 10. Could have ended the day in 7th-8th, but have fallen back to 11th. So frustrating. :(

Arenado had a home run today, so that may help. My losses today came from the win cat. and can be made up next week. A save from Soria along with a big game from Martinez tonight would be nice.

If the Nats pick up Chapman or Kimbrel it would really screw with my team. Planned to maybe drop a closer but sure didn't want it to be Storen. Chapman would be the best for me since I already have him on my team. Never play him since is so expensive and gets so few saves opportunities. Would probably have to pick up Machado for Adams to be able to afford him as a regular in my lineup. I haven't checked what it would do to my competition if Storen loses the closer job.

With Reyes gone, who is going to bat lead-off for Toronto? It would be nice if they moved Travis back into that position. (They probably should have left him there in the first place. He's a more productive hitter than Reyes right now.) Travis has continued to hit over .300. As a matter of fact, he's hitting .364 for the month of July, with an .873 OPS...but it's hard to accumulate counting stats hitting in the #9 slot.

I sure don't have any idea why Toronto made that trade. One injury prone SS for another who is under contract until 2021. They already are loaded with hitters while desperately needing pitching. Trying to win by just out scoring other teams hasn't worked for them being 7 games back with 2 months to go. Maybe they have some kind of inside track on Hamels.

Of course I am looking at what this means to my team. :) Since fantasy teams are mostly made up of stars this is a first for me having several players traded. The Cueto deal is a plus, imo. If Travis and Reyes both wind up at the top of the order would be great for me since runs scored is much needed for my team/s. Hopefully Tulo doesn't struggle against AL pitching. He is not hitting a lot of HR's this year, but that is a HR park as well. He still is batting around .300

Six teams in my Gold picked up Fernandez this week. That is ok with me since it very well may come down to a battle of attrition. I'm sitting at 6 purchases right now. I'm thinking that 3 of them needs to be used early on in August to have time to help my team. Having any more than 2 on September 1st would be a mistake, imo.

I'm not sure why Toronto made that trade, either....but I think it could very well help Devon Travis owners.

My CDM points team is the only team I'm concerned with now, as all the rest of them are dead in the water. It's still so early with that team that it is bouncing around everywhere in the standings. In the last three days, it has gone from 1-10 to 3-97 & back to 2-61. With less than two weeks in the books, 20+ points from one SP start can jump a team 15 to 20 places in the overall standings. That will settle down in a week or two, though....but with only a 12-week season you had better stay close to the top. This is the Preakness....not the Belmont.

I think this week is going to end up being one of the biggest ever as far as big name stars being traded before the waiver deadline. And it is going to affect a lot of fantasy teams. Papelbon going to Washington should help me, because I don't have Storen. And while I have Arenado, I also have Frazier (whom few teams have), as well as Donaldson and Bryant. (carrying 4 third basemen since I'm forced to carry more hitters due to the 11 SP limit) With Tulo gone...and possibly Cargo as well...that has to hurt Arenado's production.

It looks like the Tigers don't know which way they want to go yet. I know one thing about the AL Central, though: Nobody is going to catch the Royals. They have made two really good trades to get Cueto & Zobrist....and they were already easily the best team in the division. Cueto is an ace, and while Zobrist isn't a spectacular player, he is a big upgrade at second base....the one position where they were in need of improvement.

WOW! Amazing that Storen lost his closer role. That stings a little, but will probably hurt other teams more than me. If Chapman gets traded that could put a Band-Aid on it for me. When is the last time a closer with a 11 k-9 rate/1.73/1.018 and on pace for 45 saves lost his job? Guess you could say he just changed jobs for the good of the team. The Nats have 4 hitters coming back and have much improved their bullpen. Teams are really going all out for the playoffs...going to be fun! Wouldn't surprise me for the Dodgers to add Hamels.
