2016 Football Recruiting Thread - Notes from NSD Press Conference and Reception

Any chance we flip Moe Neal?

In light of today's dismissal of Syracuse's head coach, any chance our coaches are attempting to convince Moe Neal to come to Wake? The August 2015 announcement indicated that Neal was expecting to enroll in January, but perhaps he will reconsider in light of the recent news?

Edit: here is the link to Moe Neal's Twitter page and the most recent thread on Syracusefan.com discussing his recruitment.

Syracuse hybrid commit Moe Neal waiting on staff changes, has heard from BC and Wake Forest since Shafer's firing:

I 100% support raiding all the hog mollies Syracuse has committed, as well as Neal.

A statement win over Duke this weekend would be helpful. 4-8 with a final win over your recently uppity rival, is much much much better than 3-9 and finishing the season with 5 consecutive loses.

I think we win this Saturday. If we play like we can and figure out how not to (1) fall down or (2) make stupid play calls while inside the 5, we can win easily.

WR Donald Stewart will head to Auburn this weekend for the Iron Bowl game. He cancelled a trip to Michigan. Stewart also visited Stanford recently. It is not clear if he would be able to clear Stanford admissions. Stewart does not have an offer from Auburn, although they have stepped up their interest. I still think it is possible that Wake Forest might be the leading option for Stewart if Auburn and Stanford don't work out (Vandy, BC and Rutgers would be the other contenders). Stewart has been a big Wake target for a long time.

I don't doubt the info that Wake has reached out to Moe Neal. It should be interesting to follow. Keep in mind that Neal was viewed as a slot WR for Wake, and we already have Malik Grate and Greg Dortch in the class. My speculation at the time was that Dortch got the scholarship that was earmarked for Neal.

Moe has always considered wake but always "felt like he would always get playing time there" in the sense that he feels he would go there and start and that he felt he could go to better programs. Appears that he looks at us as a last resort if better options don't come along at this point, now that he might decommit

So you're saying that Stanford's standards are tougher than Wake's?

Correct. I think Stanford's admissions requirements for athletes are well beyond what any other P5 program is using. Someone can correct me if I am wrong. For starters, recruits need to be taking a certain number of AP classes. I recall a quote from an SEC coach saying they had NEVER had a single recruit that was enrolled in an AP class. So it really limits who Stanford can recruit.

Football recruits first tweet that they are committed to Stanford, and then later on they tweet whether they were accepted by Stanford admissions. It is pretty crazy.

So what's our excuse?
