Official 2015-2016 Charlotte Hornets Thread - Batum & Marv back, Lin, Al & Lee gone

mkg is done. basketball and a chronically bad shoulder don't mix.

Marvin back on 4/54. More years than ideal but average lower than expected. Woj says he had offers for $15 a year.

@NateDuncanNBA
There's the Early Bird Exception deal for Marvin. CHA can now retain Lee cap hold with full Bird or use about $10 mm on a PG

@AdiJoseph
Cheap(ish) combo guards the Hornets could target: Mario Chalmers, Jarrett Jack, Norris Cole, Donald Sloan, Seth Curry.

That's a great deal. I stand very much corrected. Well done, Cho.

Yeah it's a little long, but using the early bird exception forced their hand on length while hopefully giving them enough room to land a halfway decent backup guard.

Would like to hold onto Courtney Lee

Hornets *might* be able to bring him back now on a deal starting around $10mm, which would be cheap for him IMO, or they could go after a more traditional backup PG.

Yeah would love if they could use that room for Lee. He can handle well enough, and is insurance for MKG. Harrison isn't awful if they just need to have some ball handling.

I'm assuming they can't get Brandon Jennings for $10/year?

In hindsight, Al got $10/year from the Pacers, but I can see why Cho wouldn't want to give him 3 years. Plus he probably didn't have Marvin locked at that point.

Marvin had to accept 12.1 in the first year to fit in the early bird exception, meaning they don't have to use cap space to sign him. So he got the full 4 years but had to start at a lower average than other teams were offering. That's what opened up the much needed $10mm in cap room. All that was up in the air until today.

Yeah they've been linked to Ian Mahinmi, who is Batum's teammate on the French national team, but it would be a choice between him or another reserve guard. He's a pretty good backup though.

I feel like Mahinmi is a better fit at the 5 than the potential backup guards other than Lee fit their system. Plus probably easier to find a backup guard (and they still have Lamb) than a decent backup C.

Yeah it would be nice if Lamb could get another shot next year, at least to be a rotation player. He was so solid early on last year.

Can somebody please tell me why they think Charlotte has gotten better since the end of the season? We've done nothing but bring back Batum (rightfully so) and Marvin (who I think is an average role player that we could have let walk), and that's it. If anyone watched last season, this team isn't capable winning the east. While I have high hopes on MKG, him at full strength (which is a gamble in itself) doesn't take this team from almost winning in the first round, to championship contenders.

So far I'm not impressed.

Also, Lee just signed with NYKnicks. Classic MJ offseason occurring right now. I hope I eat my words in a few days.
