I guess I'll eat my words later, but spending a whole day, like I assume at least 10 hours on the trails (I dunno maybe you don't walk the whole time), and only covering 10ish miles just seems quite short. I want to be realistic though. I like the idea of 14-18 better, but I'm trying to let the experienced backpacker make the calls, so I shouldn't brush off yall who have carried beyond a daypack before. I'm in above-average shape, which sounds braggy, but is probably true. :noidea:

It's not a matter of whether or not you can go farther. No doubt you can. ...but you want to be able to set up camp, make food, eat said food, and have some time to just chill in the evening. If you hike yourself to the point of actually 'feeling it' those are all the parts of the experience that suffer.

i'm confident RTQ will have a great time; just pace yourself and drink often and keep snacks handy so you can fuel up while hiking/between stops

Just go whatever distance it takes to be far enough away from other people to bang, thats when you stop. You will know it when you feel it.

Yeah when I was hiking in Glacier this summer I got back to my cabin at night and realized I'd barely made a dent in my camelbak. I think I was nervous about drinking too much and not having any later, so I just mostly didn't drink anything. Oops. I think I drank 1 liter in 2 days.

no, I don't know yet. I have more important things to do but I'm trying to find good ideas on these ol' interwebs. it sounds like any AT stretches might be overflowed with AT hikers.

It's wild how you google something and then you get Facebook ads for something related minutes later.

Yeah, I was going straight, they turned right.
I was almost able to ride out of it, but had lost a bit of control when I hit into her car, and then I was about to broadside the people waiting to turn left. It was a mix of bailing and falling when I went down; landed hard on my ass/tailbone. I don't even think I ever disconnected from my bike.

Sucks. Glad it doesn't seem anything worse than a sore ass. Cars turning right seems to be the most common accident. I saw it happen once where the car actually ran over the bikes front tire and the guy got up and flung the bike at the car, hitting the back window and trunk hard. The car never stopped.

Skybook? Facenet?

yo biff and district; I just went to the chiropractor and they realigned my s1 and a couple lumbar joints and then they shot lasers into my butt to promote circulation/healing. I get to go back next week for more lasers and massage.

Yeah; I'm lucky that I saw it happening quick enough to already be slowing down, so the impact/crash was less violent. I've also seen bikes get swallowed and run over by cars in similar fashion. It's no fun.

dunno if you can tell - they pixelated the hell out of the front page for this week's OGB - needs more JPEG

Sounds scientific.

Good thing you weren't seriously injured and nobody called an ambulance because i don't think they make visits to the chiropractor.
