I guess I'll eat my words later, but spending a whole day, like I assume at least 10 hours on the trails (I dunno maybe you don't walk the whole time), and only covering 10ish miles just seems quite short. I want to be realistic though. I like the idea of 14-18 better, but I'm trying to let the experienced backpacker make the calls, so I shouldn't brush off yall who have carried beyond a daypack before. I'm in above-average shape, which sounds braggy, but is probably true. :noidea:
It's not a matter of whether or not you can go farther. No doubt you can. ...but you want to be able to set up camp, make food, eat said food, and have some time to just chill in the evening. If you hike yourself to the point of actually 'feeling it' those are all the parts of the experience that suffer.
