2016 Panthers Thread: MOVING ON

KB was never open - when the safety came down, the throw should have been to the #2 receiver on the skinny post. He should have thrown it with anticipation right as the guy cleared the safety at the 25 yard line.

Another point - KB and Funchess were not drafted for their ability to create separation. They were picked because they both had a big catch radius and could use their bodies to fend off the DB. IMO, counting on Cam to win games as a pocket passer is a recipe for failure.

Again, IMO they need to go back to the 2015 offense, where Cam was regularly used as a runner. It forced teams to bring extra players into the box to stop the run - which opened up passing lanes. Cam will get dinged up, so Anderson will have to play some, but the chances are better than trying to make Cam a pocket passer.

I think Ginn might be addition by subtraction. Love his speed, but you have to catch the ball. Our offense was too constipated to give up free touchdowns when he got open deep.

Love the personnel mismatches CMC creates. Defenses will have to go nickel when he's on the field, which helps his running game. If they ever leave nickel, he'll go in motion out wide and destroy a LB trying to cover him running a route. Put CMC and Samuel in the game together, and the defense has to go dime. Defenses may try to split the difference and use safeties; but with Olsen on the field, how many safeties could they use at one time? In other words, if the OL can get CMC and/or Samuel through the DL, there could be some good opportunities for big gains against a thin, ill-prepared second line of defense.

So it's a play for KB?

I agree with using Cam as a runner again like 2015, but I don't think he has to get dinged up. He just needs to make the smart play and go down a little more and if he's just more willing to run and pose that threat every game it will make the defense account for that. 3rd downs are where he really needs to make this a priority, when he's gaining a few first downs on 3rd and medium with his legs we are at our best.

He was brutalized outside the pocket in Denver and concussed outside the pocket in Atlanta, causing him to miss the next game.

I guess I thought there was another year before Stew could be cut without much of a penalty.

What is in that article makes the case to keep him.

Not sure why we'd cut him if we aren't going to use the cap space anyway

We need a veteran RB. Can't get one cheaper for what we would gain by keeping him. Even if CMC is a stud, Stew could still gain 400 yards and get 4 TDs.

Pretty sure the only rationale there is that we drafted CMC, but we extended JStew in March to make 2017 more cap friendly in order to keep him another year. So don't think he's in trouble.

Steve Wilks says we're going to start transitioning Shaq to TDs role this year... as expected when he was drafted. So far TDs durability has limited Shaqs snaps almost entirely to base packages, this year the staff will proactively rest TD and insert Shaq in nickel packages.
