2016 Panthers Thread: MOVING ON

Rapoport says the plan is to take Hurney through the 2017 season and then hire a new permanent GM next offseason.

Really think y'all are overreacting to this

*CEO nearly bankrupts company by overpaying mailroom employees*

*New CEO starts turning a profit and raises company's profile*

*New CEO is fired to bring in old CEO*

We aren't winning a ring with Richardson around. This is horrendous.

Yeah, we just need a figurehead to take us to the end of 2017.

TD and Olsen will big their contracts, let's just hope Hurney doesn't give them TOO much money

We have the players in place to win. The free agents have already been signed. TD and Greg deserved to be paid. Every fan agrees they should be paid. Pay them market worth and then focus on signing a new GM. Jesus y'all love that LOWF mentality in every sport

so TD (one year left) and G-Reg (two years left) decided they wanted extensions this offseason and it wasn't going well so we did some fucking crazy shit. seems dumb as hell.

If Can blew out his arm like Jake and then we had to enter back into the quarterback crapshoot we would royally suck again for a few years. Happens. And damn, the way Cam keeps getting injured while we pick up poo poo platter tackles to protect him we could be looking at that situation yet again. Ps we drafted in the top 10 this year

The top tackle went 20th

The dude gave Delhomme a 42 million dollar contract after turning the ball over 1784 times in a playoff game.

"Guys, we just have to let this blind infant parallel park a truck full of dynamite in the middle of a crowded street, then we focus on the future."

As long as that's what actually happens, that's fine.

I fear though that if we do have a very good season Hurney will get the credit and will be kept around, in spite of the fact that he will have had little to do with it

Maybe you should send Hurney an email letting him know the Delhomme contract was a bad idea. Nobody has probably told him that yet.

Probably need to keep Hurney around to draft replacements for Jimmy Claussen, Jeff Otah, and Everette Brown.

No one has more experience at being the GM of the Carolina Panthers than Marty Hurney. No one.

He has as much experience as all other Panthers GMs combined.

What do you want to sink in?

Three years after getting canned, the Super Bowl core was Hurney guys?

That he put together a superbowl roster. While Hurney might have drafted the core out of the 1st round, almost anyone can draft 1st rounders. it's 2nd and later that is more challenging. Hurney has NEVER drafted well past the 1st round and often gives picks away for reaches. Sure the core might have been Hurneys, but it takes a whole team, not just a core.

If there is one constant is sustained success it's consistency, firing your GM in July is the opposite of that.

I'm just not sure this is true. Where Hurney got in trouble is when he got cute-- you could say he thought he had excellent job security at that time, and he did things like trade for Jimmy, Everette Brown, Armanti Edwards, etc, and hand out horribad contracts.

Deshaun Foster, Will Witherspoon, Dante Wesley, Ricky Manning, Kindal Morehead, Travelle Wharton, Evan Mathis, Adam Seward, Hangman, Richard Marshall, James Anderson, Rashard Butler, Jeff King, Will Montgomery, Ryan Kalil, Charles Johnson, Dante Rosario, Charles Godfrey, Dan Connor, Gary Barnidge, Nick Hayden, Geoff Schwartz, Mack Bernadeu, Sherrod Martin, Mike Goodson, Tony Fiammetta, Captain, Brandon Lafell, Greg Hardy, Robert McClain, Josh Norman, Brad Nortman.

All 2nd round and later. All players that contributed, some turning into All-Stars.

Don't get me wrong, I would rather have Gett. But there are much WORSE things we could do than bring in Hurney for a year.

This is how I feel. Kind of like Grobe at Baylor, Hurney is just a guy that's familiar and who JR trusts won't sabotage the team in 6 months. And then when the season is over, we can go out and hire someone like Cowden as the permanent GM. TD and Olsen were going to get their contracts now regardless of whether it was Hurney or someone else, because it's obvious that JR wants to pay them.

The man who was fired for signing aging vets to ridiculous contracts, is rehired specifically to sign vets to dumb contracts. Awesome. It's time for JR to pass on, on.
