Many of us have been trying to "hit Wellman in the wallet" after his apathetic reactions to the fan outcry about [Redacted]. I believe now is the time to reverse course and start showing some support for athletics. I know for some, you'd like to wait and see who the coaching search turns up.... but for me as soon as it becomes official I'd like to jump back in and be part of that big jump in donations that happens when Buzz is truly out. Let's get things going in the right direction.

Don't be too hasty...Wellman will spin this in Bz and his favor...Would contribute only if Wellman retires/leaves/passes away..Wellman is the one who started this shit show in the first place!

I am planning on joining the DC this year, depending of course on the new hire and how RW uses his words

What I'm hearing about the email to the Deacon Club makes me want to wait until Wellman is gone.

This afternoon I met with Jeff [Redacted] for our annual review of the program. While we both agreed that our program is moving in the right direction, Jeff felt that a change in leadership would benefit the program and help our student-athletes reach their full potential.
During Jeff’s tenure at Wake Forest, he has been faced with a number of challenges. Over the last four years, the team has shown steady improvement on the court and superb improvement off the court. Jeff and his staff have recruited a group of young men who have combined to post the highest grade point average of any men’s basketball team at Wake Forest since we began keeping those records in 1989.
Our goal remains to win ACC Championships and reach the postseason each year. We feel as though we are headed in the right direction and the pieces are in place to reach our goals.
We are very optimistic about the future of the program. The acquisition of the Coliseum and the construction of the Sports Performance Center will allow the program to continue to grow and improve. We are excited about the young men that we have committed to the program for next year as well as the return from injury of two key players. Our future in basketball is very bright.
The search for a new coach will begin immediately. We will engage national basketball leaders to identify the very best candidates. Appropriate University leaders will also be a part of the search process. President Hatch will be an active participant in the search, as well. Since many of the potential candidates are still coaching their teams in post-season tournaments, the process may take a number of weeks. We will work with all of the candidates to allow them to continue coaching their teams while, at the same time, moving forward with our search process.
Go Deacs!

RW

You guys have me convinced. I'm going to wait. Honestly I don't care how they spin Buzz's departure, I just want Wake to pick a coach who can take us in a new direction and reach the same levels of team we had under Dino and Skip (with better postseason glory).

FROM HATCH:

Dear Wake Will Volunteers,

Earlier this afternoon, Jeff [Redacted] resigned as Wake Forest’s head basketball coach. Over the past four years, Coach [Redacted] built a solid foundation at Wake Forest and I am grateful for his contributions to our program.

I expect the head coaching position will be attractive to many highly qualified candidates. Athletics Director Ron Wellman will engage the appropriate Wake Forest leaders to ensure candidates recognize the University’s commitment to a successful basketball program. I will be an active participant in the search.

Our communications team has prepared the following talking points for you to use should you receive questions from friends or colleagues.

Warmest regards,

Nathan
Talking Points:
 During an annual review of the program with Ron Wellman, Coach [Redacted] stated that he felt a positive environment would be most beneficial to the program. He voluntarily submitted his resignation effective immediately.

 We are most appreciative of all the efforts that Jeff and his staff have put forth over the last four years.

 Every decision that Jeff [Redacted] has made over his tenure has been for the long-term benefit of the program and the University.

 On the court, our team has shown steady improvement over the last four years. We have seen flashes of excellent play from this past year’s team, now we need to be able to sustain that level of play on a consistent basis.

 Our goal remains to compete for the ACC Championship and reach postseason play each year.

 We are very pleased with the caliber of student-athlete in our program and that is a credit to Jeff and his staff. The team’s grade point average is as high as it has been since we began keeping track in 1989.

 We expect our new coach will find a solid foundation upon which championship caliber teams can flourish.

 A national search for Wake Forest’s next head coach will begin immediately. There is no timeline for hiring a replacement as many of our candidates are participating in postseason play.
Potential Questions & Answers:
Q. What improvements did Jeff [Redacted] make during his time here?
A. Jeff’s four years produced many positive results. He has recruited very good people, both players and staff, to Wake Forest. He has had high expectations, both on and off the court, of everyone associated with our program. The team has shown improvement on the court and posted a winning record this year. Off the court, the team grade point average is at its highest point since we started tracking that statistic in 1989.

Q. When will the new coach be in place?
A. Most of the candidates that we will be speaking with will be involved in postseason play. As they become available, contact will be made with the coach or their representative. We do not want to contact any coach prior to the end of their season so as not to impact their postseason experience.

Q. Who will conduct the search?
A. Ron Wellman will engage national basketball leaders to identify the very best candidates. Appropriate University leaders will also be a part of the search process. President Hatch will be an active participant in the search, as well.

Q. What are the reasons to be optimistic about the future of Wake Forest basketball?
A. There are a number of reasons to be optimistic. First, the team will return the bulk of its roster from this past season. We will return 70 percent of our scoring and 70 percent of our rebounding. We have commitments from two outstanding freshmen. And Daniel Green and Greg McClinton, each of whom missed this past season due to injury, should be healthy and ready to contribute.

Q. How do facilities factor into the new coaching search?
A. With our acquisition of the Coliseum, and the impending construction of the Sports Performance Center, we will own our two most important buildings in recruiting both a new coach and prospective student-athletes. In conjunction with the Budd Gym in the Miller Center, our facilities will help in attracting the new coach.

I moved to Alabama about 3 years ago, and recently I have seen first hand how quickly fans' opinions of an AD can change. Before last year, EVERYONE was screaming for Jay Jacobs' (Auburn's AD) head, but then he hired Malzon and now Pearl, and has suddenly become a genius that everyone around the country is envious of. Now, I have to sit and listen to several fans talk about how Bill Battle (Alabama's athletic director) should step down after deciding to retain Anthony Grant, when just a few months ago the man was being praised for resigning Nick Saban.

The moral of this story is that fans will be just that. We are fans and if Wellman can follow up what has so far (although no snaps have been made on the field) been a successful hire in football with a big time signing in bball, most of us will step off the ledge and be able to put this all behind us.

1) The other email from Ron Wellman said he'd be consulting "national leaders" or something, not just "Wake Forest leaders." So already they're muddling the message.

2) Commitments from only two freshman. Not Cornelius.

3) Only 70% of rebounding returns? So our rebounding could be worse next year? Uh-oh.

4) Why do we not say we're competing for national championships? Why just "post-season play"? LOWF.
