But where would MIKE WHITE be in the mythical cage match rankings?
Then we go for someone else besides Shaka and better than Manning.
The comparison to ******* is not necessarily in their background/success (though Buzz would have looked much better right after his first two years as a college head coach too), but in the way that Wake fans have begun to talk themselves into someone who is obviously not qualified.
Someone needs to explain to me the adoration for Michael White but the disgust for Danny Manning.
A. Miller has been a head coach for 3 years versus Manning's 2.
I think Danny would be a great hire ⛄️
Richard Pitino still looking "ignorant?"
Manning inherited a decent team and a historically solid mid-major program, took a small step back in year 1, and then produced a slightly better than decent team in year 2. Overall improvement but it's fairly minor and just one good season as a coach.
White inherited a terrible team and historically terrible program, took significant steps forward in all three years as a coach. Massive overall improvement for the program and three good seasons as coach, compared to Manning's one good season.
White:
-----------Conf---Overall--Kenpom
year before -2-14--12-20----245
year 1 -----6-8--18-16-----182
year 2 -----16-2--27-7-----90
year 3 -----13-3--29-8-----34
Manning:
-----------Conf---Overall--Kenpom
year before -10-6--17-14----93
year 1 -----8-8---17-16-----178
year 2 -----13-3--21-3------73

Because Wellman has eight million other things going on right now, already has his 'home run' locked in, and said from day 1 to be patient. In the real world outside of this message board, life goes on.
Manning has a heck of a lot more going for him than ******* did when we hired him. Manning has won a national title under a great coach, at a great program, was assistant under a very good coach at a great program, in his limited time as a head coach has had good success at a school where hoops has been a challenge, will probably be a strong recruiter at a better program especially with big men (which are much harder to get than good guards, just because there are fewer of them), and has a national known name. I can understand the disappointment if this happens and I'll be disappointed to, but to compare him to ******* by saying this is automatically Bzzz V.2 is laughable.......:bowrofl:
I get that Tulsa is a better historical program than La Tech. But Manning also had a much younger squad than Michael White's. His schedule also appeared to be more difficult than La Tech's. Manning took a squad of sophomores and made a run at the end of the year putting them in a tie for 1st in the conference and then went on to beat La Tech in the championship game. Manning's team next year should be very good. Manning won COY over Michael White.
Again, the comparison is in the way that Wake fans have gone from "are you fuckingserious?" to "I've talked myself into it and he could be solid" in the matter of a few hours. The same thing happened with Buzz. Neither of them are qualified for the job. Buzz was less so, but neither meet the minimum requirements.
I just looked up that Athlon picked Tulsa to finish last in the conference in his first year after an "exodus of talent". So I will admit Manning's first year might be more impressive than I thought. Maybe Manning's very good. I just feel more comfortable with White since he took over a team that was clearly garbage and has had three good years to Manning's two.I get that Tulsa is a better historical program than La Tech. Manning is up for National Coach of the year. A lot of the guys on that list are people we should be seriously looking at, shouldn't we? I don't remember Bz being on such a list but maybe he was while at Air Force.I just looked up that Athlon picked Tulsa to finish last in the conference in his first year after an "exodus of talent".
