Triad Pro-Am League - That just happened.

You said we need a scrapper who can get rebounds and a guard who will fight for rebounds.

I said that doesn't seem to fit our head coach's style. Feel free to disagree with that if you want.

I think that ridiculous. I said Green will play because he can get rebounds and we don't need him to score necessarily. You said Green will play because he can get rebounds and we don't need him to score, and then threw in some bullshit about how Bzd doesn't emphasize rebounding, which is like saying a golf coach doesn't emphasize putting, or a porn director doesn't emphasize the money shot. Just douchery on your part for douche sake.

If Bz' system emphasized getting rebounds, I'd agree with you. His teams are generally among the worst in the nation (~320) on the offensive boards and in the 200s on the defensive glass. I think Green's going to play based on his ability to defend and not be a liability on offense.

Bone, please tell me where I said he'll play because he can get rebounds. Please tell me.

And just look at the stats, Bone. It's not douchery. Three different programs over six seasons. The highest his teams have finished in OR% is 321 last season. And all but two teams have finished in the 200s or 300s in defensive rebounding. That can't just be due to players. Based on the facts, it doesn't look like a kid is going to get playing time for Bz only based on his rebounding ability.

Have you ever been to a basketball practice? Of any kind? Every coach harps on rebounds. You can argue that Bzd has not been successful at getting kids to win rebounds, but OR% is somewhat of an odd stat to use since offensive rebounds generally only account for 20-25% of any teams rebounds. The stat to use to defend your stupid theory that Bzd doesn't care about rebounds is +/- total rebounds v. opponents.

There are plenty of reasons a team might suck at getting offensive rebounds. Enough to make that stat stupid. Efficient offenses that shoot well and run the shot clock down get fewer offensive boards. Teams that stress getting back on defense get fewer offensive boards. Teams that are short get fewer offensive boards. Those teams must still get defensive rebounds.

I am starting to get tired of trying to teach you the concepts of team sports. Just quit it, PH. Concentrate on tennis and golf and maybe car racing. As a team sport guy, you kinda suck.

Jay, an offense shooting well has nothing to do with Oreb%. It is a percentage stat, not a volume stat. If anything, a highly-efficient offense should fair better in Oreb% than raw Orebs.

Great to see Ph pullin out kenpom.

Please make sure you get OReb% numbers. That will give us depth perception on our guys progress

Why would they? They'd be less likely to crash the boards and instead be more prone to get back on defense. Offensive rebounding is about volume. You send three guys to crash the boards on a shot, you're going to get some offensive boards. You send one sometimes two guys, you are going to get fewer offensive boards. Doesn't mean a coach doesn't stress rebounds. It means he stresses no easy transition baskets over offensive rebounding.

So he'd value a player's defense over rebounding?

We'll start keeping that tonight. I know that Green has had a high % of offensive rebounds, so has Travis.

Sorry- I meant volume in terms of available rebounds. Offenses with great shooting percentages tend to look like weak offensive rebounders because they have fewer opportunities (i.e missed shots). Oreb% removes that bias.

Of course it is largely a function of height and strategy. It's fine for a coach to decide to forgo offensive rebounds in order to shore up the transition defense. The problem in our situation is that Buzz's defensive ranks are weak as well.

Long term I am more concerned about our defensive rebounding than offensive rebounding. One thing Bz has shown is the ability to build an effective offense and I can understand the philosophy of getting back instead of attacking the glass, especially when that fits the personality of your team.

But if we aren't going to be the strongest defensive team, and then we are going to give up extra possessions when we do finally make them miss, we are going to be fighting an uphill battle every game.

I will shit in my pants and post the video of it on the boards if we are in the top half of the acc in rebounding efficiency next year.

I have a toddler. Your shit pants do not interest me.

Rebounding efficiency? Wear man pants you puffta posters! Go out and get me some fucking rebounds, men!

How hard is that?

No one is saying it isn't hard... we are saying Bz either sucks ass at getting his teams to board or he's always had players that sucked ass at rebounding or both. We are going to suck ass at rebounding either way this year unless our 190lb unranked, unheralded center channels Dennis Rodman this fall.

I am saying your goofy stats from some Pomegranate website that keeps goofy Pomegranate stats doesn't interest me.

If we get 40 boards a game and our opponent gets 39, I'm happy. If we get 30 and our opponent gets 45, that's a big problem.

Let's wear man pants when we talk about rebounding. That's all I'm saying.

What if our opponent gets 20 offensive rebounds for 40 additional points, and then 19 defensive rebounds, while we get 40 defensive rebounds and shoot 20% for the game because we couldn't get very many shots off? We lose by a lot, but we outrebounded them so it doesn't matter! Percentages for these things matter just like winning percentages matter. Being 1-0 is being 100% but it doesn't mean nearly as much as 11-5 does in the NFL season.

I'm gonna focus on the Fischer/LD matchup and throw that up in a separate video. Are there any other matchups/things you want to see off the ball/on defense?

Hot chick in attendance, please. Mainly I just want you to look like a creeper.
