Wake Forest Football / Military Bowl Thread

This is team is not the powerhouse their fans on that board make them out to be. Look at their schedule and wins and a chunk of their wins were not that impressive. Are they better than us? Probably. Are they unbeatable? Absolutely not. I like us to cover the spread in this game. This will likely be low scoring with two very good defenses.

Ternple should just hire Al Golden back. Worked for Louisville with Petrino.

Remember when John Chaney got fired for doing the same thing K did to CP?

We played them in the early 90s also. I remember RR going off on them, think we scored well over 100 in that game.

Temple does have and interim head coach picked for the Military Bowl. He is Ed Foley, Assistant HC, Special Teams Coach and Tight Ends coach under Ruhle. Link: http://www.philly.com/philly/sports...ley_takes_over_as_Temple_s_interim_coach.html Interesting note is that Foley has been on the Temple staff through the last two coaching changes - when Al Golden left and when Steve Addazio left.

There is much speculation about which assistants will follow Ruhle to Baylor, or are slightly disgruntled about not being chosen as the interim. The interim HC is a candidate to be the new HC. Its only been 24 hours since Ruhle took the job, and his assistants are still probably digesting the news. Temple may have a very short coaching staff for the next month. Some of the assistants may stay through the bowl, others may be gone much sooner- like this week.

Plus the ones that don't go with Rhule are more concerned about lining up their next job then preparing for the bowl game. Teams with skeleton coaching staffs often perform below expectation in a bowl game. The staff is distracted and the players are distracted. The exception to this rule is when the school has decided to hire from within, and that former assistant assumes the head job before the game. Then, the players and the staff often rally around the new coach.

Don't really get the shaming of Wake on the Temple message board. Looked at their schedule and their marquee wins are against Navy and USF.

We beat the shit out of them with CP3 as well

Just bring up this era of Temple football and they'll shut up:

Per Wikipedia:
Decline (1989–2005)

Jerry Berndt, who took over for Arians in 1989, led Temple to their last winning season for almost twenty years in 1990, when the Owls went 7–4. Temple joined the Big East Conference in 1991, but had difficulty competing against teams with better facilities and bigger budgets. The Owls would not win a conference game until 1995, In 1998, the Owls upset the #14 Virginia Tech Hokies in their first-ever Big East road win and their first victory over a ranked opponent in 11 years.[8] In that game, Temple utilized their third-string quarterback and had 10 players making their first starts of the season due to injuries. However, Temple would only win 16 conference games during their 14-year run in the league. Temple won as many as three league games only once (1997: 3–8, 3–4 Big East) and went winless in league play six times.[9] Overall, they had a 14–80 record against Big East foes during their time in the conference.

Berndt (11–33), Ron Dickerson (1993–97: 8–47) and Bobby Wallace (1998–2005: 19–71) were unable to halt the decline. Temple went 0–11 in Wallace's final year. In part due to the Owls' noncompetitiveness, poor fan support, and lack of institutional support, the Big East voted to expel the Owls at the end of the 2004 season.
