BBall Recruiting Thread 2k20 - Watson/Adams - Gibson/Bailey ('20) & James ('21) Gone

I've seen a few snippets from P6 coaches who are confident that the one-time free transfer rule will both pass and apply to this upcoming season. Most of the transfers in this cycle indicate this to be prevailing thought as well.

I think that a lot of the kids in the portal are banking on this as well. If the immediate-eligibility transfer rule doesn't pass or isn't applicable for the 20-21 year, some "transferring" students may find themselves without a school for fall.

Interestingly, Wes Miller played at JMU and was there a few years after Lefty Driesell, who is on our search committee, was the coach there. Apprently they hold each other in high esteem.

I love Lefty. Absolutely hilarious man with an underrated career because of the prior rule limiting NCAA bids to one team per conference, but at 88 and out of the coaching business for 17 years, he shouldn't be driving a car at this point, much less advising on WF's next basketball hire.

I thought he was dead until now.

For those who don't follow the NBA, Nick Nurse is considered the best player development coach in the league.

Ty Brewer, come on down.

(shit I just learned he has a brother at ETSU)

He was head coach of the 2019 NBA Champion Toronto Raptors and was a contender for Coach of the Year in 2020 before the season got cut short. .712 winning percentage. Like Forbes, dude was a fucking grinder and won at virtually every level from JuCo to the NBA. He was D-League Coach of the Year in 2011 and won D-League championships in 2011 and 2013.

Yeah and Toronto didn't win with a massive payroll, they won building from a team of team defense, role players and Kawhi. He turned role players into borderline stars (Siakam, Van Vleet, Powell, Davis) and used vets brilliantly (Lowry, Gasol).

I'm so pumped about this hire. Holy shit.

It would be pretty cool to get CP3 and DeAndre Jordan in the Joel on the same night.

If the one-time transfer rule goes through there a couple of solid candidates on ETSU who may want to follow Forbes to WF:

- Current Junior Bo Hodges: 6-5 combo forward; First team all-SOCON; was SOCON Freshman of the year two years ago; freak athlete;13 ppg; 6 rpg; 2.5 apg; scored 22 at Kansas.
- Current Soph Davien Williamson (from Winston-Salem; went to WS Prep; won the Frank Spencer Award as a senior); 6-2 PG; 10 ppg; 38% from 3; 3 apg

They were more than $13M over the luxury tax and had four $20M+ players (Lowry, Gasol, Kawhi and Ibaka). That's a pretty big payroll and lots of stars.

But yes, Nurse did develop talent well.
