Good bourbon

Color me unimpressed with Maker's Mark Ambassador Christmas gift this year.

Have not received mine yet, but they have become a tad shittier each year. Given their price increases, I would expect more.

I am glad you did not tell us what it is. Still want to be suprised.

Followed this link and was immediately hooked. Consulted with the wife and got the green light to pull the trigger on this little guy. As far as I'm concerned, December can't get here fast enough...

I ordered one as well. Will be sipping right along with you. When I showed it to my wife her response was "I'd be sad for you if you didn't get it."

Coworker is visiting relatives in KY for thanksgiving and picked me up one of the last 12y Van Winkles in town.

Very excited for Monday.

I'm flying into Atlanta for work this week, and I'm allowed to bring 2 liters of spirits back with me into the EU when I return. I can (at some expense) get most of the standards over here (Blanton's, Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, etc).

Give me a few more unique small batch suggestions I can find in Atlanta to take back with me - price isn't a huge deal, since this is a yearly treat for myself, and keep in mind I already have a bottle of Pappy.

Sitting at the bar in the Hotel Negresco in Nice on Thanksgiving when the bartender asks if I am American. Well yes I am. Do you like bourbon he inquires? Well hell yes garcon! We have Pappy Van Winkle 23 he replies. I am thinking I cannot even find this in the US and here I am in bar in Nice and they have it. Thankfully I was not too buzzed to inquire as to the price. $80 a pour. The bottle is still there. Could not pull that trigger.

I did nail the Knockando 18 several times.

Apologies for not reading all 49 pages, but any opinions on the following:

- Bulleit
- Larceny

Ta....

You need to get on the train and go to the Casino in Monte Carlo.

If you are ordering shrimp in France, you need to know this phrase - "sane le tete"- otherwise your shrimp will watching you eat them.

There used to be some reasonable cafes down below the Casino by Olympic Pool. Very tasty....

Bop into San Remo. Three countries, 2 meals, a casino in one afternoon.

Been to the Casino in Monte Carlo a couple of times on previous trips. Too pretentious for me, but then I am just a Goldsboro redneck. We did hit San Remo this trip! Less than impressed, but then they were shuttered for the season.

Had a blast in Cap d'Antibes on this trip. First time there. What a great town. Sat in an Irish bar that was probably 200 years old and worked through several scotches I have never heard of. Way too much fun.

Did not mean to hijack a bourbon thread, btw...

Drove through bourbon country on the way back from the Notre Dame game last weekend. Only distillery we hit was Woodford Reserve (AWESOME tour, btw. Check it out if you go anywhere near Lexington). But also awesome was the Liquor Barn. HOLY SHIT. This was the bourbon aisle there (JUST bourbon)

I bought 750's of Woodford Reserve, Bulleit, and Four Roses Small Batch for under $80 total.

My whiskey advent calendar arrived today. I can't wait for Dec. 1.
