Conference Realignment Thread: New B1G divisions

Strong spent the balance of his career in the SEC. I'm sure he'd go back there if the chance arose. There are usually one or two SEC openings every year. He will bounce eventually. Lville can offer him huge money (thanks Papa!), but they can't offer him SEC prestige. The SEC can offer both.

Then they'll use that $pizza to get another good coach. They aren't destined for suckitude like we are.

God why can't every other conference stop sucking so we can stop hearing about how football did not exist before the SEC started winning in the past decade.

The SEC has always been pretty dominant. UGA had its runs, Bama controlled college football for years...Tennessee is down now but it's a storied power program....this is not completely new...Spurrier was a big factor in that he brought UF and then USC out of the muck and made them power players. UF has continued its successful run post Spurrier (ignore the Zook years). It will be interesting to see if USC can sustain its success after the inevitable 24 hour notice Spurrier retirement.

UCONN basketball was a one trick pony - Slimeball Calhoun. The fan support is awful (AWFUL) and Storrs is a dump in the middle of fucking nowhere that no one is going to recruit to well going forward.

UofL has a much bigger and far more passionate fanbase, has a much longer history and has a far brighter outlook going forward. And that's just in basketball. In other sports it's just laughable to compare UCONN to them. UCONN is exactly the kind of program that the ACC should be avoiding.

You have no idea whether UConn will or won't continue to win without Calhoun. They've been relevant for nearly 25 years, which is certainly long enough to absorb a coaching change and continue to be a good program.

And you certainly have no idea what you're talking about related to fan support. The entire state supports UConn and its sports programs, because it's the only universal thing in the state.

And when it comes to other sports, UConn has very good women's hoops, men's & women's soccer.

While I agree that historically, Louisville has the better basketball program, since 1990 UConn's success absolutely dwarfs theirs.

Championships: 3-0
Final Fours: 4-2
Elite Eights: 9-5
Sweet 16s: 13-8

All that said, given its history and location, I think Louisville makes the most sense for the ACC. But you're just totally off base about UConn.

Louisville just wants in so they can schedule us for homecoming.

I think the Louisville move is genius for a couple of reasons.

1) Best football school we could get
2) Hopefully shores up FSU (Big 12's most likely ACC target)
3) Eliminates one of the strongest Big 12 prospects from the Big East.

I firmly believe that either the Big 12 or the ACC is going to survive mostly intact, but not both. Anything we can do to add to our position while weakening theirs is a good move. By shoring up our position with FSU while eliminating attractive Big 12 targets, we are making it more likely the ACC survives and the Big 12 gets cannibalized.

I sincerely hope we don't eventually regret letting WVU go to the Big 12.

But if the B12 dissolves that leaves WVa there to pick up.

We stayed in Louisville after the ND game and hit the Slugger Museum and Churchill Downs on Sunday. I didn't realize just how close to campus Churchill Downs is. It's a good road trip destination if the horses are running.

The Louisville Slugger Museum is also an extremely underrated destination, if you're a baseball fan.

I was in a wedding in Louisville a while back. The Groomsmen's gifts were personalized Louisville sluggers.

I stayed at the 21c Musuem Hotel one time which is right downtown. i thought i was in scene from the "Sprokets" sketch on Saturday Night Live

Someone really should mention that we passed on WVU, and we are now taking UofL. Really surprised it has yet to be mentioned.

It was definitely a strategic move on the part of the Presidents. UConn isn't going anywhere. Louisville cuts off the Big 12. The resolution of the ACC exit fee will be interesting to see.

Ugh. I get why we did this...but I still don't like it.

'member when we just had TEN teams? I miss those days...
