CBM: X-Men '97 finale; My Adventures with Superman S2 May 25; The Boys S4 June 13

Arrow has introduced a TON of characters though to be within their first season.

I think that's part of the problem. I want to see all these characters, but not before Oliver is properly developed as a character. They've completely abandoned his story the past few episodes for the sake of exploring Merlyn and Laurel as a couple and now introducing Huntress. All of these would be fine, but they've introduced it all way too soon. None of these plot points resonate because we don't even know everything about Oliver yet. These are season two kind of ideas that are showing up in the first 7-8 episodes.

Agree.

Outside of Batman's rogue's gallery, DC villians suck.

I think there's room for a studio to reinvent them and make them better as long as they're in supporting roles. I wouldn't want Gorilla Grodd or Solomon Grundy or Mr. Myzptlz (whatever) carrying a movie.

I think solo movies about The Joker and Lex Luther would be fascinating and a good way to introduce Superman and Batman in a new universe. Ra's Al Ghul with Talia would be great as well. Maybe Sinestro. A Legion of Doom concept could be fun in terms of building a team out of psychopaths, killers, cheats, and such.

Wouldn't play well to kids, though. Studios wouldn't want to risk incurring parental wrath...or toy makers wrath, for that matter.

This. A huge part of the success of the Avengers model is the licensing merchandise.

Good points. Freaking kids. Probably the worst part about superhero media is the need to appeal to kids and sell toys. It stifles creativity.

When did you get into comics/superheros?

When I was a kid. But I wouldn't have been turned off by more adult themes or anti-heroes or focuses on villains in movies.

Stan Lee always said they didn't make the books for children. But, comics are a niche product. Major motion pictures and television shows need broad appeal to be successful, and that means mommy and daddy forking over $40 to take junior to see Iron Man blow up the bad guys.

Exactly. They snuck a ton of stuff in there.

I would love a Loki movie starring Tom Hiddlestone. Even if they went with a relatively art house budget it would be a benefit to the whole scheme. What is the comic precedent? I feel like the next XMen movie will have the most screen time dedicated to the villain.

Finally saw the new Spider-Man. Didn't think the movie was very good, but Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were excellent, so at least there's promise for the next one(s).

I think people would have loved it:

1) If we weren't just a decade removed from Raimi's first Spidey.

2) if the CGi had not been so awful.

In case anyone was wondering, The Dark Knight Rises is just as awesome on blu-ray as in theaters. Perhaps even more so, given the number of times I can stop and rewatch the pit scene.
