Gun Control Laws

I never proposed to control or regulate media stimuli for precisely the reason you mentioned. Thus, my belief that nothing can really be done that will curtail these kinds of tragedies short of amending the constitution. Things like more diligent parenting and mental health treatment can't really be addressed from the government side either.

Do we not already have restrictions on freedoms outlined in the Constitution? Why then, is it impossible for more?

I'd rather have 20 elementary school kids killed each year than millions be subjected to metal detectors and armed guards every day.

I hate to say this, but LaPierre is right about one thing - the only thing we can do right now is put armed guards at schools. gun control legislation or mental health reform legislation is not going to happen tomorrow or by the time schools start back in January. I don't want my kids to have to walk past an armed cop every time they go to school, but there is no better immediate solution.

Did anybody else notice his line about how the country "refuses to create a nationwide database for the mentally ill"? So, he wants my wife in a nationwide database because she had a bout of post-partum depression, but he would have a fucking stroke if I suggested a database for people who actually own instruments designed to kill people.

You're assuming that the shooters are rational. Why would killing a guard not be considered more exciting?

A crazy comes to the door. The armed guard approaches him to see what he's doing..BOOM he's dead. Then the gunman gets an adrenaline shot and the feeling of invincibilty.

A mental health database would make the lawyers salivate. There are way too many potential problems with privacy laws in establishing something like that.

As for a national gun registration database, while I believe such a thing would pass constitutional muster, I certainly understand why many don't support it. In addition to letting the feds know where they can take the guns from (not that I see that happening anytime soon because that action would NOT pass constitutional muster and would see a court injunction the second after the first gun was taken), it serves no real purpose so far as gun control is concerned. So I have a gun. So what? If I choose to use it to kill a bunch of people, what good did the database do? If my whackjob son chooses to use it to shoot me in the face 5 times and go kill 25 more people, what good did the database do?

By having a gun registry it limits sale of guns. With it should come a law about what happens if your gun sale isn't registered. It will make straw man purchasers think twice about doing it.

The database is useless in and of itself. The reason for a gun database would be to serve as the foundation for licensing and insurance requirements. I assume LaPierre doesn't want a mental illness database because he thinks it will cure crazy people, he wants it so that crazy people have a harder time buying guns. I want a gun database so that every gun can be insured and so people can be held responsible if their guns are used in crimes. I have posted my thoughts on this topic about 10 times in this thread, you can do a search if you want more information.

Fair enough. Wouldn't any licensing and insurance requirements be a state issue?

i sure as fuck do. unfortunately our country has too many people like you, who think that the slaughter of children is the cost of being an american.

Glad to see that you're the Answer Man for this issue. Better announce to the world that you have the solution and will be running for office in order to implement your great plan.

You have to give credit to LaPierre for one thing, it takes some serious balls to not only claim that gun violence is the fault of everything *but* guns, but to also claim that guns are the answer. ("Good guys" with guns, of course, because he's 12, apparently.)

This here was also impressive.

no more guns is the solution. are you that dense?

Not to limit the broad based support of such a plan, it wasn't just Hilter's a lot of dictators have implemented that plan and it always gets results

Oh high and mighty mufti, how do you propose to implement this "no guns" solution in light of preexisting guarantees to gun ownership that are codified by the Constitution?

And here comes the base. Let me know when the UN shows up to invade the US so I can feel so much safer about your old ass having a gun.

And just for shits and giggles please go on. Tell me about how you and all the other hick assholes are going to join up in a militia and bring down the guberment in response to it taking your freedoms by making you say happy holidays. Fucking lunatics.

you aren't paying attention to what i am saying. the solution (no guns) is obvious. we can't get to that solution right now because we have too many people like you jerking off to the second amendment. if we had less people like you (who think that the gun slaughter of children in a school is no big deal and the cost of being an american) then we could come to the obvious solution.

it is fucking obvious that the only way to stop mass gun murders is to not have guns.
