Duke-Wake Game Thread

This is not true.

Travis hadn't even considered leaving. When Chennault, Desrosiers and Fields all transferred in a short time period, he had dinner with Childress and essentially asked him what was going on and for advice on what to do. Chill told him not to worry. End of story.

This is not true.

At a spring basketball event last year Travis' AAU coach told several people that Wake would not release him from his scholarship to transfer. Obviously there is probably a lot more to the story, but I heard it from two different people at the event.

In the end, our season is not defined by the Duke game that everyone gets excited about. It is defined by the Marylands and FSUs of the conference. Hopefully we can play at a level similar to tonight and win a couple against the mid tier teams. If not, then the pitchforks will continue to come out.

If this is true, then I am truly ashamed of this new "culture" that Ron Wellman has puked into existence at MSD. :rulz:

A close friend of Cory Alexander said differently. (Alexander, for the doofi in the audience, is a well-respected mentor of McKie's.) Perhaps the truth is in the middle. Perhaps Alexander's pal was correct. Perhaps Childress is correct. Caveats aside, a low-ranking assistant ACC bball coach has much more to protect than a hanger-on of a former All-ACC performer who's now announcing games. Again. Consider intent.

WHAT ELSE DID DRUNK CHILDRESS SAY TO THE CHILL-IO LA BROZ?

Exactly. We have played well at home of late only to follow those performances up with miserable road losses against mediocre teams. We need to keep the momentum going and compete on the road and beat a team or two at home we are not expected to.

Huh?

Must be a different Deac83.

I think most of my posts on this and the other board has been a discussion of Wake's post Tim Duncan record on the road.

And I'm sure you can find my statement that the team needed to play well at GT to validate the good feelings from the State game.

I believe my primary comment about the game were that the coaches said the players didn't practice well and then performed the same in the game and that I'd like to see CJ and Travis take some control on the floor (as the upper classmen) when things are falling apart.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree on this one.

I am not. You blamed the players (bad practices, lack of leadership) and Wake's history, you did not blame the coaches.

1. When CJ gets his 4th foul.
2. When borderline out-of-bounds call goes to Duke.

I didn't mark when these events occurred but I'd guess the CJ foul was with 6 minutes left and the out-of-bounds call was with 2 minutes left.

CJ foul was with 6:34 left. Can't tell when the out-of-bounds happened.

The 'reputation' here? Is that important? Does that make your position more valid? Interesting.

The reputation of Bz (as a crap coach). Not my board reputation. Facepalm

Numbers, this is 100% spot on! I really think that most of the ACC refs are intimidated by Ratface and near the end of every close Duke game, the big pussies won't call anything against the Blue Devils. I saw the same shit 20-30 years ago when Dean Smith was coaching UNC, but of course it was the Tarheels getting all of the breaks then.

I do agree that while the bad calls didn't completely cost us the game, they sure as hell hurt.

Ratface's teams are so well prepared that he spends majority of the game chewing out officials instead of having to coach his own kids.

The "charge" that Curry took and the no-call on the Plumlee charge were just bullshit. And how Buzz could get warned by the refs, yet ratface tears them a new one all game is beyond me.

Actually, the way it works is every win and loss are pinned on the coaches. Bz just happens to have more losses than wins.

Unless you have a "back injury." Then the losses are pinned on an assistant coach you throw under the bus.

The reason I dont see Travis leaving is that while the rest of us dont see him playing in the NBA, Travis still does. He wont leave and sit out a year, and he wont get the pre-draft advice that he should declare. Therefore, in any reasonable scenario, he will be back.

This is good news (from a reliable source). Some boards have Travis as an end of the 2nd round pick after next season. At least he has a shot. He will be on an up-and-coming team next season from an unbiased perspective and he'll be the guy if he wants it. Work hard and he can move up the draft board. Leaving would not be a wise decision IMO, but I understand if he's been through enough at this point.

he was pretty hammered and wasn't holding back

What month was this in?

I heard my version of the story soon after the mass exodus happened. Within weeks.

Perhaps Chill revised the story somewhat to save the program face? Would have been the right thing for him to do.

Exactly. Company line.

Travis has "bought in" with his play the past month or two. That is very easy to see. It was also very easy to see that he wasn't bought in earlier in the year.

agree with this. his effort on defense (even though he got lost a few times last night) and on the glass are much better than some of his sleep walking we saw at the beginning of the year. i really wish he would have been able to yoke that ball last night on the break where he got fouled. the place would have absolutely erupted.

Hardly 'every' excuse in the book.

Given that there are enough people here that blame the coaches for everything that happens, someone has to look at the other factors. The players do have some responsibility in this and when we see them play well against State and dook, it points out that there is little reason to be down 39-9.

The discussion of Wake's history had little to do with the specific loss to GT. Reference to those were factual and related to the overall season.
