There is a massive difference between Childress' made up role (what he served last year) and being an official D1 assistant. Most high major staffs have multiple made up roles (these positions are growing on trees lately). To be made an assistant means you are part of the core team. Childress could have absolutely survived a cleaning as the DPD (or whatever other made up title they might give him). And here is the reality of what him choosing to accept this decision does. When I was in my second year of coaching our school moved up from D2 to D1. Along with it came a lot of turnover with our staff. I had the opportunity to move to another school as an assistant or continue on where I was. When spoke to other coach who was interested in hiring me he told me the following words "I would love for you to come, but understand that we are on the razor's edge down here. We might not be here for the long haul". When you become a part of the AC staff you are tying yourself to the head coach. I was fortunate enough to have a coach that would level with me. Turns out he was fired after that year, and went on to take an AC job at an ACC school the following year, but his staff was sent scrambling for jobs.
Childress was not tied to Bz before now. He wasn't hired by Bz, and he could survive the firing of Bz. By accepting the AC spot he is a part of Bz's coaching tree, for better or for worse. In my opinion it will not be a benefit to him.
I keep reading about "bigs". Do we have any?
Devin, DGreen, Cav, Andre. Moto and McKie are fringe bigs as well. Could be better, but the big men situation is not as dire as this board makes it out to be.
I see one ACC caliber true front court player on that list.
Most ACC freshmen aren't forced to play the minutes that ours did. Guarantee you that both Devin and Cav will have very solid 4-year ACC careers.
They wouldn't have been forced to play those minutes if our coach knew how to build a program.
reading the tags, i found "rodneyforstrengthcoach" to be in rather poor taste.
Chill's got the youtube video of him breaking McInnis's ankles and giving him the "get off the floor chump" signal. That's got to count for something.
wake now has two of its three assistants with a combined seven years of high major collegiate coaching experience with all seven of those years at wake forest
the third is a holdover from a program perpetrated by the athletic department as missing culture
and the head coach has zero ncaa tournament wins
this move actually hurts more than it helps had they decided to replace rusty with chill and keep corbean or let corbean go too that would be different but keeping two former players with no collegiate track record (much less a track record of success) and a lame duck loser head coach is pretty awful
this thing just keeps getting better and better
Only a complete fucking loser would write that. I have my suspicions...

shove your suspicions up your bald ass, chrome dome
I'm actually shocked at who it was. Not any of the usual suspects.
Tasteless tag.
