Brittney Griner... A Man...

I wish male athletes that happened to be gay would feel comfortable enough to admit it publicly as well.

Good for her. I think that women's athletics (maybe Basketball more than most) have a pretty comfortable view on homosexuality relative to their male counterparts. That being said, it's good for young lesbians to have a high profile role model.

As some of the winners on this thread have already indicated, its not necessarily a detriment for a female athlete - because really good female athletes are just faux-men anyway, so they might as well be into women.

Male athletes, on the other hand, would be considered effeminate, weak, and many other stupid things by stupid people, including one's own teammates.

Its an idiotic double standard, but its reality.

It's not a double standard. It's the same standard. Both are treated as de facto members of the opposite sex and that's wrong.

This comes as a huge surprise. My guess is well over half of women college basketball players are lesbian...and a very large percentage of the female coaches. I remember talking to women's coaches about the difficult dynamics it creates. They have to deal with teammates sleeping together on the road, lovers quarrels, all sorts of difficult situations. Much more difficult to be a women's college coach than a mens coach.

Coach Petersen who had done both, said that it was just "different".

Imagine if Rutland and Braswell had slept with each other.
