Pit Boss Beer Thread

has anyone here tried founders "doom"...a bourbon barrel-aged imperial IPA. the local store has a limited supply and was wondering if it was worth the trip there mid-week. i've tried a bunch of barrel-aged beers but never an IIPA...i would think the hops and bourbon essence would compete against each other too much.

Cracked a growler of Weisse Weisse Baby by Westbrook last night. Very light, a little cloudy, with tiny bubbles like you'd expect to see in champagne. It was a little sour, but I found it very refreshing. The wife ended up cutting with a Pale Ale.

My favorite new beer has been Aviator Brewing's (Fuquay-Varina, NC) "Hot Rod Red". It's a classic irish red with an IPA like hoppiness, 6.1% ABV and a IBU of 41. I absolutely LOVE this brew.

Reached into the back of the beer bunker (not nearly the size of the bourbon bunker) and came out with a Bell's Special Double Cream Stout that was bottled on 1/04/2012. This was good, better than when I bought it last year, but still had a little thinness to it. Two bottles down, four to go. I think I'll let them sit for another year and then give it a try again.

Had several good beers last night, but the one that stood out above all the others was the Evil Twin Biscotti Break Imperial Stout. Reeeeally fucking good - chocolatey and lots of espresso notes. Great beer with last night's desert.

So Boulevard here in KC did a free wort giveaway. Homebrewers registered to come pick up 5 free gallons of wort. Homebrewer has to add yeast and finishing hops/other ingredients. And then brings back 4 bottles of what they make to the brewery and share what they did. My cousin registered but was out of town, so I got to go pick up the wort and sample beers at the brewery.

Pretty cool idea.

Fegley's Brew Works Hopsolutely ain't nothing to fuck with. 11% and it'll strip the enamel off your teeth with hops.

Now on to Victory Swing.

Pennsylvania really is a tremendous beer state.

Special shoutout to DaDeacs for the Standard Tap rec. That bar was truly spectacular. Best local beer selection in Philly.

love a good vertical tasting. prob with all the ipas here.

Ommegang's going to release their second Game of Thrones beer called Take the Black Stout.

Per the label, Ommegang Take the Black is a 7% stout “as dark as the winters that once engulfed Westeros, as robust as the men who swear their oaths at the Weirwood Tree. Chocolate and caramel sweetness are balanced by hop bitterness. Roasty, woodsy notes, and an earthy finish.”

Not a big fan of blonde ales so I didn't go after Iron Throne but I'll definitely be looking out for this one.

Actually drinking Boulevard's Love Child No. 3 tonight which is a wild ale aged in bourbon barrels. Absolutely spectacular. Also highly recommend Rye-on-Rye and The Sixth Glass.

Bo can really brew some beer. If you enjoy that you should trek up to Shangys they sell it dirt cheap because they are the wholesaler. Also, city tap is dope. It was a both delivering beer to that spot.

Sampled the GOT Blonde Ale this weekend. Big meh. Hoping the new release is more exciting.

Crushed a bomber of Westbrook Mexican Cake last night and it was fucking delicious. If you've never had it, or heard of it, it's an anniversary brew for them. They start with an imperial stout and age it on vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, cocoa nibs and habanero peppers.

Maui Brewing Co has a delicious Coconut Porter and Bikini Blond Lager. Bikini Blond is the perfect beach beer and Coconut Porter has great subtle coffee and coconut flavors in the finish. Cool cans too.

picked up my first pack of dogfish festina peche today. love the sour beer, any other sours out there i should try that dont cost $20 a bottle?

Went to the Founders beer event during Philly beer week couple of weeks back. They had bottles of Canadian Bourbon Stout and KBS on draft. Had at least 6 KBS's. Apparently, they are not going to make the CBS anymore, it was decent, but not anywhere near as hood as kentucky. They also had some crazy chile beer on draft that was legit hot.
