Has anyone listened to the new Queens of the Stone Age album? How is it?

Just listened thru Yeezus. Love the overall boldness and I like the album once I (finally) get past the arrogance. "Hurry up with my damn croissants" is the sound byte of the summer.

Bound 2 (best lyrics), I Am A God (best beat) and Blood On The Leaves (bonus points for C-Murder 'Down for My N****s' sample) are the tracks I keep coming back to.

Chief Keef must have lost a bet or something. The track where he sings is awful.

I need to listen to this a billion more times, but I hate this path he's gone down where it's just his own myopia shoved down our throats over and over (with admittedly dope beats). I'm also still mad BIG PITCHFORK has convinced everyone he's the best rapper around. I recognize his greatness, but I'm just not ready to suck his dick yet.

I did enjoy this from Kanye's big interview:

"Why do you want to control me? Like, I want the world to be better! All I want is positive! All I want is dopeness! Why would you want to control that?"

Stereogum says Yeezus is his most Chicago album yet. I see that.

RE: Yeezus

Black Skinned, Blood on the Leaves and Bound 2 are pretty good. The rest is sort of shit. Beats are next level, I thought his rapping fell off on this one, even though there are some great and clever moments.

Yeah, I'm all-in on Yeezus. This is good. Like, really, really, really good.

Townie: "Hold My Liquor" is one of the best on the album, IMO. Chief Keef is whatever, but Vernon set a perfect tone for the track, and Keef follows the lead pretty well.

I'm also really digging the arrogance. 'Ye is gonna do him, and that's sort of endearing... When he says something like "watch how much I don't give a fuck" on "On Sight" and plays a ridiculous, otherwise unannounced choir sample, I can't help but admire the man. The screams at the end of "I Am A God" would be off-putting if they a.) weren't so damn good at demanding attention and b.) didn't actually merge with the beat. The idea of "Blood on the Leaves" is just incredible. It shouldn't work. Kanye dares it to work. It works.

Why does it work? Just because he's brash and bold?

I love the sound of almost the whole thing, but the lyrics are just so off putting to me. I don't know why people are so impressed that he's terrified of being a father. He should be; he is about to have to care about something other than himself. When Gold Digger playfully teased the idea of a woman trapping a dude, Blood on the Leaves goes ten steps further into straight misogyny.

I know it's kind of a conceit of the genre to brag ceaselessly and glorify vice and belittle virtue, but this just hasn't done it for me yet.

I was talking more about the sound with respect to "Blood on the Leaves". I haven't delved far enough into the lyrics yet to really know how the subject matter gels (though I know from reading about the track that the lyrics really cheapen Simone's sample).

Also: I didn't notice it the first time, but the piano in the back of "Guilt Trip" is really sweet.

My first impression, way too early, knee-jerk ranking of Yeezus tracks:
1.) Bound 2
2.) Black Skinheads
3.) New Slaves
4.) Hold My Liquor
5.) On Sight
6.) Blood on the Leaves
7.) Guilt Trip
8.) I Am A God
9.) Send It Up
10.) I'm In It

yeah i will admit, as much as i really don't like the subject matter of this album, it's quite clear to me he's at or near the peak of his game with regards to sound/samples/production.

For me, some of it falls into the same trap that he fell into with Watch the Throne on 'Ye and Jay's super-serious tracks. I'm not tuning in to hear you guys rap about murder rates in Chicago, even if you can do it and it's great and it's powerful shit. I'm buying your record to hear you say stupid shit about Maybachs. Seriously, that's it. I'm buying it to hear non sequiturs about croissants. If you want to make me think, that's fine, but it needs to be balanced, and Yeezus absolutely excels in this department, I think.

I know that this is an odd criticism, given how widely criticized 'Ye is for rapping about his opulence, but it's the truth; I want more of that absurd arrogance, not less. It's why "Bound 2" is so refreshing. He opens things up and it's just fucking fun.

Production is amazing. The intro of I Am A God is so hypnotizing. I just picture this epic Mayan dance with Yeezus rising up from Chitzen Itza in a kilt.

I can't help but burst out laughing every time I hear the Jesus convo.

I just talked to Jesus
He said, 'Wuddup Yeezus?'
I said, "Shit I'm chillin,
Tryna stack these millions."

"Bound 2" is chock-full of soulfulness and double entendres; it's the closest we get to the old Kanye. Daft Punk did the same thing ending their album with a familar sound in "Contact". The only difference IMO is the Daft Punk listener ends enjoying the new direction, while the Kanye listener ends wishing the rest of the album was more like "Bound 2".

I know everyone is on that Yeezus, but homie J Cole brought it on the Born Sinners.

I think I'm about the same, although I'd put I Am A God at 5 and just move all the others down one.

Hahahahahaha BIG PITCHFORK has done it again. 9.5 this time.

But the lyrics doe

I will be at the Local Natives show at Music Farm. Can't wait to see them live. Heading to Lumineers this Friday as well so looking forward to some good music coming up.

Is there an opener tonight? Doesn't appear to be. Trying to talk the wife into going.
