2013 Pit Fantasy Baseball League (Year III)

Did anyone else get a hilariously bad trade offer from Nonny yesterday, or was that just me?

his to me was lol bad. calling gardner a replacement level player.

Don't think it was ridiculous, definitely not "hilariously bad."

You get Josh Donaldson, John Buck and Kevin Slowey.

Donaldson: Currently 8th best 3B, will be first full year in bigs and has last round keeper cost for future years.
Kevin Slowey: Currently Top 25 SP, 1.81 ERA, K% highest of his career
John Buck: Currently 3rd best C, 10HR (only behind JUpton), 29 RBIs

Your current C is Jonathan Lucroy (17th rated C) and 3B is Nolan Arenado (32nd rated 3B) or Michael Young (UTIL, but 23rd rated 3B).

I get Angel Pagan, Josh Johnson and Chris Sale.
Angel Pagan: replacement level OF
Josh Johnson: Highest ERA of his career in 2012, twice as high in his early 2013 struggles. On the DL already with a triceps injury.
Chris Sale: Solid pitcher with some early struggles.

May not be a trade you are interested in completing but far from "hilariously bad."

that is hilariously bad. you're offering 3 guys who suck at the peak of their value for 3 guys who are actually decent at their lowest value. i wouldn't trade johnson or sale for all 3 of your guys.

There is a reason that you've developed a reputation as a guy that tries to fleece the other in trades time after time. You always offer hilariously poor trades from the start. Always.

Still don't think it was ridiculous.

Josh Johnson is owned in only 67% of leagues, Angel Pagan in 78%.

With Stonz definitely needing both a C and 3B upgrade, and many fantasy owners completely giving up on John Johnson, I thought it was a reasonable trade, or at least one to start discussions.

You're claiming Brett Gardner is significantly better than Moustakas, De Aza and Ichiro?

Yes, yes, and yes. ichiro is done, moustakas hasn't hit, and gardner provides the steals that de aza does with more power, average, rbis, and runs.

Trades are always difficult. Often times owners are trying to prey on the weaker starts of the superstars and sell high on the "no names" that are crushing at the moment. Yet, we all know of the "no names" that keep it going all year, and we kick ourselves for not trading or gambling on them in the Waiver Wire. I had Trout on my team twice last year!! Muther F-er! Plus, we draft the guys we usually like, and therefore are way more "attatched" to them than we should be and get pissed when reminded how bad they suck (yet another owner still wants them and is willing to sacrifice said hot Flava of the day), but we think our guy(s) never suck as bad as the guys we get offered.

4 beers in (no dinner) and stating the obvious. I wouldn't take the trade, but not as bad as I thought it was going to be. In my espy league a guy waived Dickey and i didn't even kjnow it until I saw his name on the FA list. Grabbed him and felt like I found a $20 at the mall - trying to appreciate the little things. PS, also got Gardner on the wire yesterday... Now, if only Sale would get dropped. : )

Bump.

League is tightening up. Our additions this year were SOLID. Phan's gonna win the homers title by the AS break.

Looking forward to playing this thing out down the stretch.

I'm also looking for SP help and I have Aramis Ramirez and/or Chris Johnson on the block.

I've got 4 on the DL, so I know how that feels, phan. Significant but not insurmountable gap between the top 8 and the rest. Whomever owns Best Coast Beasts should get punted out next year for being inactive(I'm not just saying this because he beat me last week).

Also, I'm still looking for some relief pitching so I don't continue to automatically lose the Saves stat each week.

The saves category to me, I feel like, can be played one of two ways: all or nothing. I feel like you either go all out and get 3 top guys and go for the Saves category every week (supplementing your other pitching categories a bit too, maybe stealing a win every now and again too) or you just forget about it (just two whatever guys) and use those picks/trades/waiver claims on starters and position players, essentially surrendering the category most weeks, and accepting that it's just one category and try to rack up more strikeouts/QS/W by streaming that starter spot.

I've gone back and forth in the no-man's land between those two approaches for a couple seasons now, and I hate it.

i play the middle on that, townie. i don't draft a closer until late, and i only draft flyers. i tend to err toward quality rps over shitty closers and hope they shake out. i also do whatever i can to pickup saves off the waiver wire. in our league for instance i have parnell, bailey, and henderson. one late pick and 2 fas. i'm 5-5-1 in saves and usually get stronger as the year goes.

Let's talk about every single move and decision we make here like those guys on the Fantrax thread.

I picked up Drew Smyly in my RP role, it was a tough call letting go of DL Vargas - but I think he can solidify my pen with wins and a solid ERA.

Good start.

I hate Mondays and Thursdays when so many teams aren't playing.

Also, Rev seems to have set up some sort of machine where the first sniff of a prospect coming up triggers an automatic waiver to add him to his bench. Dude has been all over it.

I picked up Rauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul Ibanez because it is fun to type Rauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul, as I say it in my head.

Also, I'd like to thank Black Marlins for allowing me to go 12-0 with pretty standard numbers. Cheers!

Happy with my Nathan Eovaldi pickup, except for the fact that he plays for the Marlins.

I hated my Brandan Morrow pick during the draft, and I still hate it. Not only has had a pretty sorry year so far, but he's been hurt for a month and I don't have room for him on my DL. I really should drop him for a position player, but I hate dropping a guy I drafted that highly.
