Spurs Love [Redacted]

Yeah, it can be "argued" because people make nonsensical arguments all the time. But he was NOT hired to "rebuild". We were NOT a rebuilding job until after Jeff [Redacted] got his hands on the program.

As to the sentence in bold above... I agree with it as a stand alone statement. That is probably the reason we ended up with Buzz in the first place.

Take it up with Wellman - clearly he wanted to rebuild, which is why he hired [Redacted].

Whether you think we needed a rebuild or not, Stetson dropping 90 on us suggests we were in much worse shape than many on this board like to tell themselves. When Stetson destroys your starting 5 playing man defense it's not all coaching. Check out how many times Stetson scored more points all year than that as a level-set.

And this is from someone who is certainly no fan of the hire - just not buying into the extremist stuff.

No, that is not what that "suggests". Stetson "dropping 90 on us" is what you get when you have a coach who cannot get the most out of his players and that coach is also known for fielding teams who are unable to play defense.

And I don't think that Wellman thought he was "rebuilding" when he hired Buzz. I think no decent coach was willing to work for him. And as a plus, with Buzz, Wellman got to micro-manage the basketball coaching staff.

DC's argument suggests practice started an hour before the Stetson tip.

Like the Stetson or Presbyterian coaches wouldn't have straight up swapped personnel with us prior to (or even after) the tip...

In April of 2010 no one thought Wake was really in the position that we would have to rebuild. We were going to be young, but I think most people thought we were a piece or two away from being very good by now. Basically, people thought of the 2009 + 2010 classes as being foundational. A base of good, but not great players. A group that would win 20 games on their own, or 25+ with a couple of star players. CJ and Travis did their part (both will likely finish on Wake's top 15 of all time points list), but, well, it didn't turn out that way due to attrition and poor coaching.

It is far more accurate to say that [Redacted] turned Wake into a rebuilding job (with some bad luck as well) than it is to say that [Redacted] took a rebuilding job.

You know your fanbase hates their coach when a troll post results in 6 pages

We were picked to finish last in the ACC and that was before Woods and Tony Chenault were taken out of the equation. We were going to be rebuilding no matter who was coach.

That's not true at all

People were thinking Wake would be around the NIT level the next season after the Kentucky loss. Nobody was saying that we would struggle to be a .500 team. Not a single damn person.

Andy Katz summed it up:

Wake Forest is an attractive job, with talent in abundance returning and coming to Winston-Salem, N.C.

Wake loses senior guards Ishmael Smith and L.D. Williams and big men Chas McFarland and David Weaver. Sophomore wing Al-Farouq Aminu declared for the NBA draft and signed with an agent. But the Demon Deacons still should return a quality team with surprising freshmen Ari Stewart and C.J. Harris on the wings to go with Gary Clark and Tony Woods. That's four of the top 8 returning scorers.

Wake Forest also had the No. 6-ranked recruiting class by ESPNU's Scouts Inc. with guards J.T. Terrell, Tony Chennault and frontcourt players Travis McKie, Melvin Tabb and Carson Desrosiers.

Additionally, the conveniently forgotten fact that we were #1 team in the country within 24 months of this ass-clown being announced as our head something or another.

To be fair, that class that was rated 6th was hilariously overrated. That also had a lot to do with it (along with having Jeff [Redacted] coaching here).

sure everyone loves bz but i don't see them all clamoring to offer him a job.

Jason King of Yahoo, in his September 2010 ACC preview ranked all of the other teams and then lumped the last 3 together...

New coaches will roam the sidelines at Clemson, Boston College and Wake Forest. All are expected to struggle in their first year.

Yes. We were expected to finish at the bottom of the ACC after Bz was hired. That's well established.

Rebuilding does mean different things to different people. To most people it means "building again". To most people, building is more than 8 wins.

Except the large contingent of the fire Dino fans who were sure we would not win a game with Dino coaching after losing AF, Ish, LD, and Chas.

The fear was slipping back to the NIT or out of NIT contention not winning 8 games.
