I see Ph is doing his going too far with one variable thing again
Only one?

By comparison the 2003 post-Seattle bowl class had 5 commits before the season started (inc. Tucker, Terenshinki, and Mauk) and 9 after the game (inc. Bryant, Andrews, Robinson, and Stukes).
The 2004 and 2005 classes weren't all that great according to the services but they were the backbone of our best stretch ever. So then what was the difference between recruiting the 2004/05 classes and the 2008/09 classes?
I agree with you....at least I agree with what I think you are saying. In my opinion, WF probably shouldn't be in one of the "power" conferences"....and wouldn't be, if we weren't a charter member of the ACC. I'm not saying that we shouldn't be playing in D1, but we can never really compete on a consistent basis in football with the power conference schools. Basketball is a different situation. You can take 3 or 4 really good players and build a top team in basketball. WF has shown in the past that they can do that. Basketball doesn't require the massive manpower or resources that it takes to put together a consistently top program in football in the power conferences. We are set up to constantly frustrate our fans & alumni in football by trying to keep up....even with the Clemson's & FSU's in our own conference...much less the football machines in the SEC & other football power conferences. And it didn't just start with Wellman. Look at WF football history for the past 75 years or so. Also, it's not because WF "just isn't interested in winning" in football. We don't have "basket weaving" majors, or whatever such things are offered at some of those other schools I listed. Nor do we have a history of being "the place to go" to begin an NFL career. We also do not have either the academic or social atmosphere that would be attractive to many "pre-NFL" players.
It might hurt some of our egos, but personally, I think WF would be much better off in a mid-major conference where basketball is getting better & better all the time (for reasons that I just mentioned), and we would have a much higher degree of success in football. But that's just my opinion. Other people, I'm sure, have a different opinion.
Because the first full recruiting class after the Seattle Bowl was the FRESH DEACS class.
OK, we're on for the $100. The board wins anyway, no matter which one of us kicks them the $100. Here is how it comes down for Vandy this year:
They should have a 100% chance to win three games: Massachusetts, Austin Peay & UAB.
They should have a 0% chance in four games: South Carolina, Georgia, Texas A&M & Florida.
So they are 3-4 with five games left, plus a potential crappy bowl somewhere. That's Ole Miss, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Wake Forest and, possibly, Team X in a bowl.
If Vandy wins 5 of those 6 games, you win. Otherwise, you lose. Obviously, I don't like your chances.
After last year, Vandy won't be sneaking up on those teams this year.
