Austin Proehl is a tarheel

Austin's granddad really wanted him to go to Wake. He bleeds Gold and Black. But Wake's former recruiting coach - now elsewhere - would schedule visits with Austin and then cancel, hence the complaint about recruiting. And I think Ricky wanted Austin to be recruited by other schools, but I have no facts to support that, other than his gushing quote about UNC when Austin committed. But UNC did offer and that says something about Austin's talent, two star or whatever. I don't think UNC offers Austin just to tweak Wake; I genuinely believe UNC coaches believe Austin can help them. I hope so for Austin's sake.

Oh, and the real USC (in Columbia) was founded in 1801. Southern Cal was founded in 1880.

Fact. SC was a college before California was a state. However, the Trojans became a university before the gamecocks did. Which is why some may argue the Trojans are the real "U"SC since they were a "U" first.

As in Lonnie Galloway the former WR coach? Our recruiting coordinator has been the same guy (Coach Ray McCartney) for about a decade.

What is truly humorous is if the kid had committed to Wake all the sorry fuggin fans would be moaning about "another 2 star". They'd point out the fact that he's a highly visible prospect who trains at Proehlific Park.

That's not even remotely true.

Well that and the fact that U. South Carolina sucks and isn't relevant in sports or academics

To be fair, most of that hate comes from the fans, not the actual athletes. Over the years, many of our players have been friends with players on other teams. The players want to win, sure, but many times they don't seem to get caught up in the vitriol that many fans do.

If Proehl had committed here most would have said "this is great because Ricky was great and hopefully he can emulate his father."

Nobody would be moaning.

And I definitely understand not wanting to be in your own father's shadow- or grandfather in Sam Saunders' case. I just despise that his choice ends up being UNC and that UNC somehow gets away with that poster.

Pretty sure personalizing emails/letters to recruits is not legal...OH BUT LOOKY HERE

Wait...I missed this. How in the hell did someone legitimately believe that personalized emails or letter were illegal?? What do you think coaches send kids? It's not only not illegal - it is a huge part of the recruiting process. If it were illegal than pretty much every coach at every school would be in trouble. Kids post these things on social media ALL THE TIME too so go check it out for yourself if you don't believe me.

It's definitely illegal. It may not jive with your opinion of what should happen or does happen, but it's absolutely illegal under NCAA rules.

ETA: I realize this isn't exactly a poster, but it's even illegal to send them a poster.

Pretty sure that general correspondence with a recruit has to be:

On college letterhead
Must be a 8 1/2 X 11 single sheet of paper
Content/design on single sheet of paper is not restricted
Any additional sheets must be on plain white paper, text may be typed or handwritten, but color is not allowed
Any attachments must be on plain white (8.5 X 11) paper and blue/black ink. No color.

Also, I am pretty sure email/twitter/facebook correspondence cannot be personalized like that. I think recruiters are very limited on how they can contact a recruit electronically.

NCAA likes things old-school, via the USPS, and that is limited in #, and it must be mailed in a plain envelope with only one school identifier on the outside.

Schools violate all the time, but that is a violation.

If a kid gets a game program (they are allowed one), any posters or promotional items have to be removed.

The number one violator of this is Duke football from my experience. Dudes are straight up calling out other schools, personalizing every message, etc. to football recruits. It's ridiculous.

Yes, I do believe it's illegal because it is.

Down there they call it Carolina. The one up here is called Baby Carolina because they kick their butt so much in baseball & football.

Down there is the only place in the country that calls South Carolina, "Carolina".

The real Carolina is in Chapel Hill and the real USC is in Los Angeles. and lol @ kick their butt so much in football. They never play each other in football.

South Carolina fans need to get over this.

Which "Carolina" gets better radio presents?

The real Carolina is in Chapel Hill

That's the main reason I call South Carolina "Carolina." It irks UNC fans. Fuck 'em. And I generally pull for the Gamecocks because, like me, they hate Clemson.
