Breaking Bad - Final Season - SEASON 5 (Part II) Premieres Aug. 11

Ah right, the "I hated Lost before everyone else did" game.

Lost won 11 Emmy's including best drama. Was nominated for a hundred others. Really good show that fell apart in the end. People on the boards were far more into the first 2 seasons of Lost than they were the first 2 seasons of Breaking Bad.

Yeah, pretty much hated it from day one.

First, I think Gretchen chose Elliott because he must have had just a huge fucking cock. If there is any and i mean ANY correlation between the size of a man's ears and the size of his cock, then Elliott is swinging a serious stick. Those ears blocked out the lighting from the kitchen in that scene in the last episode. I thought I was looking at Alfred E. Neuman from the Mad Magazine covers.

While I really really really enjoyed Breaking Bad, for me, what set it apart was it's amazing framing of shots, the challenge of creating a character that changes so dramatically and doing it relatively seamlessly (never done), and totally stepping up after finally getting critical acclaim and rather than petering out (like Dexter and many others) knocking the last 8 episodes out of the ball park each week. I mean, maybe a few of those episodes were ground rule doubles but rarely does a show answer the call like this one did in concluding its story.

That said, how did Walt get hit by a bullet when he was on the floor? ricochet?

And I suppose I should add that The Wire is my absolute favorite show of all time and Breaking Bad didn't change that.

definitely a ricochet of some kind. i wasn't sure if it was a bullet that got him or some type of debris. i have to rewatch the scene because i am sure the answer is there, but i wonder what it was that the bullet hit that ultimately hit Walt. i bet it is something symbolic.

Yep, everyone hated Lost. This board wasn't even around for the good years of Lost and there's still a thread talking about it.

"I thought LOST was so mediocre that my post was an obvious joke. Oops."

Clever trick, DCDeac. I'm impressed you took the time to do that. Not sure those two statements are as incompatible as you think though.

The Constant is/was just the best. Love that episode. I'll always stand by that. It was 47 minutes of tightly wrapped suspense culminating in cathartic romance, and it will always tug on my heartstrings.

But that final season? Woof. I (and I think everyone) watched because LOST felt so ambitious and meticulously planned that I expected a final season to give meaning to several seasons of obscure symbolism. It was cool and hip to be obfuscated for the first 3 seasons (what's behind the goddamn door?!), but the last season was one of the biggest letdowns I've ever had as a TV watcher. Seriously, what was the whole point? I watched every season to be left with zero answers and a Hallmark message about friendship persevering across borders, physical and metaphysical? Ok. Great story. It was a mediocre series.

The scene where Walt sees his family for the last time, particularly watching Flynn through broken windows, was brutally sad and amazingly shot. Just silence, and then Walt turns and fades away.

The last nod that Walt gives Jesse and Jesse's acknowledgment of it was also very powerful. So many layers to that final interaction.

Did any else think that Aaron Paul's upcoming Need For Speed movie looks incredibly lame?

I just watched the trailer now. What an odd choice of a video game to make a movie adaptation of. Most of these movies are based on a game that has familiar characters or storyline. NFS is simply, drive a car around a track, earn some rewards to get a faster car to go around another track. Maybe the series changed over the years, truth be told the last time I played it was for the PS1.

I thought Aaron Paul did a lot for his career in the last two seasons of Breaking Bad....and I'm going to hate it if he uses that to take pay days for movies like Need For Speed. He can just as quickly lose his appeal as he can jump to that next level.

I think they were pretty clear that Gretchen was involved in Walt's exit from Grey Matter. They showed Walt and Gretchen in a flashback talking about the chemical make up of the body and it was obvious they boned. I'm guessing Gretchen chose the other guy and that was part of the reason Walt cashed out.

Yea I was always under the assumption that Walt and Gretchen had a thing but Walt was too much of a Beta male to make the move, and thus she ended up choosing Elliot, which led Walt away from Grey Matter and to teaching....also kind of helps hammer home why he loved the power so much when he finally got it.

The finale was a little underwhelming and a little too...neat....but like someone else mentioned, from the last scene of "To'hajiilee" thru the penultimate episode "Granite State" was just phenomenal television. Those few episodes completely made up for the slight let down of the finale.

There's a lot of discussion about narrative here, but can we talk about cinematography? Breaking Bad was a freaking beautiful show. The point-of-view camera shots, the close-up shots on important objects, the incredible desert setting (where better to set a show that's fatalistic, brutal, and actually very pretty?).

The best aspect of the show I think...just amazingly done throughout the series.

was anyone else happy that we got to see badger and skinny pete one last time?

Was so glad they reappeared for a bit of comic relief...good choice from the writers.

I thoroughly enjoyed LOST but was pretty disappointed with the last few episodes...that said, I started watching in Season 2 and by the finale had as many people watching as I could get. No other show on television will spark as much discussion and fan involvement as that show did. It will always be in my top 5 for the entertainment and social experience that it carried with it.

I actually watched most of Season 5 (Pt 1) and all of Season 5 (Pt 2) yesterday so I've been MIA from this thread all season, but I like how the series ended other than a few minor things.

Loved lost and am currently watching it again with my wife who missed it the first time around. Final episode was meh but I'm not going let that ruin the entire series. I'm picking up on all kinds of stuff I missed the first time around.

Breaking bad however is probably the finest television show ever made , and yes I watched the wire also. I absolutely loved every episode of breaking bad, except for the one with the fly, but I digress.

Jesse was a boss for telling him to do it himself. That was a fantastic line with great delivery.

Aaron Paul improved so much as an actor throughout the course of the series, too. And it helped they gave him more chances to show off as the show went on, too. His reaction to Andrea's murder was gut-wrenching.

Yeah, definitely a bullet. Hmmm... never thought about what it might have ricocheted off of.

Sucks that the wife lived- I thought she was a cunt after the episode where she smoked while pregnant.

The main reason Lost should not be compared to The Wire, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, and even Mad Men is that Lost is a Science Fiction series. The others are dramas. Apples and Oranges IMO.

First, Lost isn't science fiction by any stretch. And second, your statement would be like saying The Wire is a cop show, not a drama. Of course Lost was a drama.

So, time travel and coming back from the dead and magic knives and monsters is not Sci Fi???? My bad. Of course it is also a drama, but the others are fiction, not science fiction. If you dont get that, I cant help.

Cdeacman must be into some freaky shit if he doesn't think lost is science fiction by any stretch.
