Official Coaching Search Thread

That one year in Louisville is also the year that Kragthorpe got canned.

Don't know a whole lot about Wells, but at least he isn't a retread. He has had success and he looks like he would bring some enthusiasm. I would be pretty optimistic if he was the hire.

Looks like Wellman getting played again to me.

And the more I think about it the less I like the idea anyway. Nothing wrong with the obvious Wellman.

Washington would be a better place for him to land.

Got any examples of top assistant coaches or Offensive/Defensive coordinators being recruiting coordinator too? To me, it always sounded like a job that would go to the newbie who has time to pull together tape, make charts/lists, organize, etc for the people that actually make the decisions.

Nothing personal and this fellow may be a hidden gem but I'm just very wary how a guy like this is gonna be able to recruit totally different kids to Wake. Maybe just me but I've never heard of him and guessing a majority of folks East of the rockies haven't either....sorta like another fellow we know who worked out there:squint:

And even if he is, why do we always seem to be looking for "hidden gems"? Why can't we just hire a gem?

Shelby ‏@volklgurl 3m
@Tjonessltrib @kylegoon Just saw a tweet that he's in the running for the Wake Forest job. That would suck.

I'm seeing the Matt Wells Wake Forest rumors, only have seen one source so far. Trying to check out what's happening. Stay tuned.

I love it how nobody wants to start a Wells thread. Buckle up for Buzz Part Deux.

Meh. Just feels like an agent leaking something to a reporter to coerce a raise for his client.

If this is true it's more evidence that Wellman just hires by conference prestige.

Unlike Buzz, this guy did come up in the list of candidates put out by Coaching Search.

Matt Wells (Utah State – head coach): Wells led Utah State to a 7-1 record in the MWC in his first season as head coach. He previously served as the offensive coordinator under Gary Andersen at Utah State and coached at Tulsa, Louisville, New Mexico, and Navy. He is originally from Columbia, SC.

Definitely this until more outlets pick this up and run with it. And even then, this is surprisingly early in the game.
