NCAAF Coaching Carousel

I just realized Mack Brown is still "only" 62, and that he was 47 when hired by UT. For some reason he seems a lot older than that. Briles (58) and Miles (60) might be a little on the older side to start fresh at this point.

I have a feeling that UT is gonna end up with Todd Graham given the AD's Arizona State connection and Graham being from Texas. Briles is just too old and Patterson's teams have had culture issues.

As for Todd Graham, he's out of the UT coaching search because of Patterson, according to the Austin American Statesman. Arizona State has a contract agreement with Patterson, the former Sun Devils athletic director, that says Patterson isn't allowed to hire away any ASU coach to Texas.

Patterson's teams have had culture issues? I can't remember anything besides Pachall's alcoholism, but that's pretty minor compared to other Texas FB programs.

Arkansas State interviewed Chad Morris(Clemson), Mike Norvell(Arizona State) and Philip Montgomery(Baylor) this weekend.

Longhorn fans would be fit to be tied if they hired Graham anyway I would think.

A year ago, four TCU football players were arrested in a drug bust, and their have been persistent rumors about high drug use among TCU football players. Also, they are 6-12 in conference since TCU joined the Big 12. I don't see Texas going after Patterson.

Some speculation that Texas could get around that by saying the board hired him, or if that doesn't work pay ASU money.

Knowing the expectations of the Longhorn fan base, I just don't see that being a very inspiring hire. Of course, I don't like Graham to begin with after the way he did Pitt.

Got a link or confirmation on that? Morris denies it but I guess that means he did. Ark. St. launched Malzahn to Auburn & Bryan Harsin to Boise State in respective years so its not a bad gig to launch from. The Citadel is also open if he wants to take that route. Neither would pay the 1.3 mil he gets at Clemson, but he wouldn't be there long before a bigger job came calling.

Got it from Football Scoop, who have since updated their story to stay that Morris didn't actually interview, but there was contact with his agent. Morris now says that he has zero interest in Ark State.

Bet Morris is waiting to see what Texas does. If Baylor or TCU open, he will be on the short list.
